Carbon just cut his pad a couple of days ago in pretty much the exact same spot. The good news is that I have a vet staying with us for a couple of weeks and he cleaned it for me so I didn't have to be the one getting the old stink eye from Carbon. Heh.
The nice thing is that there's snow on the ground and his little walks around the yard cleans out the wound. When he comes in, I put a little Neosporin on it and check out the healing.
I don't worry about cut pads as much as I used to. They happen. Sure, sometimes they're nasty, but usually they're not too much of an issue and heal really well, in my experience. I just keep an eye on it, but after multiple dogs with multiple cuts--I've never had one that had to go to the vet over it.
Maybe it's just me, but pad cuts actually seem to heal faster than other areas of the dog.
Tuesday I let Starbuck walk around the house without the wrap on her foot. The cut opened back up, but there was no bleeding. I let her have some time (about 5 hours) again today without the wrap.
I hoped that I would get the cut to stay closed and heal that way, but it looks like that isn’t going to happen. The cut looks better today and I hope I can easy up on the bandages by the end of the weekend.
I’ve checked her temp the last week and the reading are all normal (100.4, 100.5, 100.3)
I feel bad for her; I think she thinks she is in trouble

excellent photos! Thanks for keeping us updated. Nice job of keeping it clean. I could just about eat off that food
I had a similar problem with my old shepherd mix years ago. We had some Leather lace dog boots for hunting dogs and after I got the bleeding to stop we put gauze in the bottom of the boot and strapped it on the old foot with some wound creme. Worked very well.
A year or so ago my dog had an even deeper cut in a similar place on his paw. It may have been a glass cut, it was very sharp and very deep. The doc wanted to stitch it, but it was partially healed by then, so I decided to just keep it clean and wait it out. It healed completely, over a few weeks, leaving no scar.
After about the first 10 Days I backed off on the medical treatment. She is doing much better and I plan to take her on a long walk tomorrow. I purchased 2 sets of the Ruff Wear Trex Dog Boots. She has Large for the Front Paws and Medium for the Rear. She prances in the boots like a Morgan.
The foot it no longer tender to the touch and I think she has mostly forgotten about the injury.
