Angela, what kind of bones do you mean? "Cow" leaves quite a bit to be interpreted. Do you mean like femur bones or knuckle bones & ribs? I can see where actually eating femur bones would not be a good thing...otherwise I'm lost.
Jennifer: Because he's eating and pooping, and not vomiting up 100% of his food, I guess the vet decided it is not a blockage. The vet did explain that metoclopramide was to "move things along" but by the time I got home, I had forgotten most of what she said about the drugs so I looked them up. I reeeeeeeally hope he passes this thing.
oh good. i figured that he isn't fully blocked was a good sign w/metoclopramide, but since my experience is w/blockages/masses of far softer matter than a bit of bone, i wanted to at least mention it, i wasn't really sure.
i'm glad that he seems to be doing a bit better - hopefully he can get it moved along!
I am SOOOO relieved. I feel so much better (and I bet he does too).
That piece definitely looks like bone, with carpet fibers stuck in it. It is NOT a piece of a Rollover bone. I have no idea where he got that, I do not recognize it, but it sure looks nasty.
Sorry about the cow bone comment, I guess it does sound funny. What I meant was "recreational bones", the kind that are like 3 or more inches thick, and they are just supposed to chew the meat off and kind of chew on like a toy (at least, that's what my other dogs do). This boy will actually consume them, and my concern is for his teeth (that he will crack/break a tooth), not about him actually eating the bone per se. Hee hee, hope that clears THAT up. Although now that I think about it, I guess Rollovers are an even worse choice for his teeth. I think one of these days I will start a new thread about teeth.
Anyway I'm just thrilled my doggie is going to be OK.!!

Thanks guys, LOL.
No WONDER he was so sick.
Yes --- he wasn't kidding around when he was obviously distressed.
IME, they pretty much never are. It's not hard-wired in dogs to display weakness/illness, and when a dog is obviously distressed, I always believe the dog, no matter what the vet sees or does not see. (I mean in general; I realize that the vet saw this.)
Carole, nope the quarter is to show size. Though the quarter would have been easier to pass without all those jagged edges.
My cruddy day is brighter too, now that I know my dog is going to be OK. Good to know I made someone else's day too. so.... cow bone cow bone cow bone!!!
