Vent on Carol. Great arguments, pretty much the same points I use as well.

Exactly! I actually have convinced my best friend to switch her 2 Bengal cats to raw....she was really worried when the recall came out and I got to read her a bunch of stuff from this site..........that's the way we have to do it, one house at a time! still working on my family members though......

Problem is many vets push the, purina, hills, iams ect. My vet told me the science diet is great food. When I told her I feed EVO and wellness to the cats and canidae and innova to the dog she had never heard of these foods. I had to bring her info on them cause they wanted me to feed my diabetic cat purina (he wouldn't eat it)

I am lucky to have a vet that is open to the way that I feed and I am also lucky that he admits his faults in the diet area.
I am sure they get paid to sell the crap that they do.
My vet has said that he does not mind raw diet, however he does not promote it due to people that feed it all wrong and cause mild to severe health issues in their dogs. He does not have time to teach how to feed raw.
With this said, he does tell people that feed it or ask about it to contact me.
What I find is that when I start talking to people about it, they instantly think that it will be too difficult. Which is unfortunate, so now, I print off the article on Raw diet that Cindy wrote along with a sample menu and the web address to this site.
This gives them the info to get started and hopefully embark on what will be a beneficial journey for their dogs and them.
Can't switch em all, but I sure as heck can give it my best shot without wearing myself out.

Dr. Lonsdale says in his book that the vet gets 40% of the price. That's a lot of moolah.

I wish the vets would let their concience override the money involved in that.....

Why do you mix the two foods? I am switching from canidae to innova. I thought innova was better. I have labs and the shed way too much on canidae. I am hoping innova will be better for them.

Stacy, I don't think there is really any food that will help with shedding. Even raw doesn't help with shedding. My dog was on Canidae before and now on raw, she sheds the same. I think Canidae is a great food btw. I have convinced all my friends to switch their dogs to Canidae, unless they were on a similar quality food.

EVO is the only kibble I have noticed affects shedding at all, but I also give salmon oil/vit E and MSM to my dogs that help with their coat.
I have noticed that in a warmer climate animals tend to shed more than in a cooler climate or at least one that has a cold winter. In Wisconsin the dogs would shed heavily in late spring when the weather started to get warmer and they would shed throughout the summer. But here in Oregon the fall, winter, and early spring are MUCH milder, so the winter coat they grew in shed throughout winter and is really dropping now that the weather is getting warmer again.
The Furminator is such a great tool for any breeds that blow undercoats, and I use the groomitt, a soft plastic or rubber hand mitt that is for grooming horses that has little nubbies on it, rub over the body in circles once a day outside and you are good to go.

I feed canidae dry, but mix in some different wet food (evo, eagle pack, merrick) for a little change. Plus also salmon oil, vit.E daily and a raw egg a few times a week.
