I would probably only stir a little yogurt into some water, that's what I did for my dog to get him to drink.
Oh yeah, if you do not have low salt broth or any chicken to boil to get broth, I would do this as well.

Thanks everyone so much for all your help. I will do as you all said with the yogert-in-water and the chicken and rice. I will watch him very closely and I will contact a vet in the morning.
Thanks again. I will keep you all in touch.
P.S. he was wormed about 2 months ago. at about 6 weeks old.

Hi
I had a similar problem with Pup Goran
His stools were like pudding and watwery No Blood
He was treated for Giardia worm but it did not change, after time now had gone by a couple of weeks with no change i then noticed on a monday morning he was passing just brown water and straining to go, Again to the Vet who made an appointment with a Speciaslist Vet, He took Xrays and did a Scope down into his intestines the Scope went down over a Metre, You could see it on the television Screen
You could see small Red Patches on the inside of the Intestines, He took a lot of Samples and Tested some, and sent others to a Specialist Lab, It came back an intoerance against the feed, So he was Given Tablets for three weeks to disinfect the Intestines and put on an Hypo Allengic Food
It is now nearly three weeks since he was Scoped etc He is now back to his normal self and is putting on weight
Prior to the start of this problem he put on only half a Kilo in 5 weeks, He ate as normal but the food was not doing him a lot of good
I have to feed this food now for two months, then vary it a bit until he goes back to his normal feed, Should the problem sttart again after going back to his normal diet then the Food will have to be changed
At the monent he is going on great
I hope your Pup Goes on and it turns out to be a simpler case than Gorans

How is he? When you said "pudding diarrhea for some time," how long did you mean?

Hi, sorry it has takin me so long to get back. I was out for part of the day. Our night went great. I checked on him lots last night and he seemed to be fine. To day at about lunch time I gave him a little chicken broth with rice and a spoon of yogert. He loved it! I watched him all day and he did really good. He did not throw up at all and he also did not poop, but maybe thats cause he did not get much to eat. But he did pee alot and had lots of water to day and was really active all day.
Connie: about his pudding diarrhea, he has had it about 3-4 weeks. when I took him to the vet a few weeks ago she said that that was normal for a now puppie and that he would probably to it for a few more weeks cause of new food, new people and training. She said to just wait it out. At that same opt. he got a bowle sample test(that was + for wormes, so he got wormed that same day). She said that everything eals looked good. But I would not think that he should still be having problems after all this time. What do you all think?

Glad to hear he is doing better. Did you try giving him pumpkin for his loose stools? If they are loose still on the chicken & rice, I would add some. It is good for that. Also keep giving some yogurt. I always take some boneless skinless breast, chop it up and cook it with the rice, make sure the rice is mushy and wet, not dry and fluffy. some people cook it seperate, I don't know which is best. I think the flavor of the rice is better when cooked together. That's about all I know.
That does seem like a long time to have loose stools, I can't believe the vet said that was normal. My dog never got the runs when I brought him home from the breeders, or when I changed his food.

Occasional loose stool happens with pups. 3-4 weeks of diarrhea is NOT normal.
My pup had the same thing...very soft stool to diarrhea for 1 month. My then-boss...a vet, no less...told me "Don't worry, loose stools aren't unusual in pups. Just don't look at it!!!"
I sent the stool out myself for a fecal culture and abundant salmonella came back as the diagnosis.
Not saying this is what your pup has but a month of really loose stools should be investigated. And if your pup has caught something the right medicine clears it up...but first you need to know the cause.

Hi -- I am far from an expert but when we got our 12 week old puppies the vet discovered they had a parasite and needed medication. I think it is dangerous for such a young dog to go so long with diareah and vomiting. We almost had to put our older dog on an IV treatment when she went thru the same kind of thing because she was so dehydrated. Luckily, that was not the case. Perhaps this is an answer you've already received - I did not have time to read all the postings. If you have not gotten the pup to the vet yet I'd do it soon. Good luck! Hope all is well --- Kristen Ryan

Christi,
The vet said this long before it had been going on for weeks, right?
I'd say that you need to get a fecal and drop it off. And I'm with everyone who said to fast him for twelve hours and then give him nothing but very soft overcooked watery white rice with a tiny bit of plain canned pumpkin and/or yogurt if you have it, then tomorrow adding a bit of all-white boiled no-skin poultry while you wait for the fecal results. Getting his stool normal is your goal for right now; as everyone says, weeks of pudding stool is not normal and not OK.
Let us know, OK?
