So you would rather spend 10-12 yrs cleaning up piddle? I don't mean to sound crass, but I have a dog with a leak problem, I knew it when I took her on at 4 yrs old. It doesn't get better, it gets worse. It may not seem like a big deal now, but when she is 70 lbs or more and it isn't just dribbling on her leggs anymore it isn't really plesant. All my furniture has covers, I have a carpet steamer, and guess what... it still isn't fun.
Housebreaking is nothing compared to this... I would rather clean up puddles anyday over having to do whole room cleaning because of dribbles from one side of the room to the other.

however, i am not ready to cut my loses and start from stratch again. As a breeder and trainer(about 150 dogs a week come through here), I would tell you that this is the exact attitude these backyard breeders look for. Also, how they make their money. You have a dog with an obvious problem, yet you are unwilling to 'start over'. Thats fine, you have a long life ahead with that dog. Although, the number one reason dogs end up at the pound is housebreaking.

i only posted this to get ideas of anyone else hearing/having such problems. And you got ideas from people who have had, and who deal with this everyday. Like has been said your dog.

And your vet offers no idea either.... could be this, could be that... that sums it up for me! Could keep this dog, could get another one....

I am going to see how the blood work comes out. in anycase, what does one do, give her up so she can be someone elses problem. I THINK NOT. i exspected a little better from a bunch of loyal dog lovers. i am disappointed that (some/most that have given his/her two cents worth) feel the need to trade her in, as if she was just a material thing and not a living being. SORRY, i feel you all are being a little too heartless.

and HELLO, without the bloodwork and/or any other testing, who the hell knows what/how serious it really is, and if there is a simple cure. why give her up and a little while down the road find out that i just gave up a perfectly good dog with a good temp. and get another one with, GOD ONLY KNOWS what kind of problems it might have arise, mental or physical, i have had my share in the past.

Tammy,
I don't think it is anyone's intention to come across as not caring what happens to the dog. We all feel bad that the dog isn't healthy. They're just trying to keep you from saddling yourself for many years with a dog who may never get better. They're looking out for your best interests, because having a dog who will always be sick is heartbreaking, not to mention incredibly costly and time consuming. Testing is expensive, but you have to keep in mind that the cost of the testing is probably nothing in comparison to what you will spend caring for this dog over the course of her lifetime, if this is something that can't be cured.
By all means, have the blood work done, but if it turns out to be something really bad, I would have to agree that it would be best to return the puppy. If it is one of the problems that you mentioned, it's probably going to get much worse as the puppy gets older. And, no, passing the problem on to someone else is not the answer either, but if the breeder is ethical, they won't pass the dog along to someone else without letting them know what they're getting into. If this is a gentic problem, it is something that the breeder should be responsible for, even if that means euthanizing the poor puppy if her quality of life is significantly affected by her medical condition.
Good luck and let us know what happens.
