Connie, I had never noticed it as much as I noticed it with Stark. I didn't feed him at all for a day, just gave him water (partly to fast him, and partly b/c he was not a very nice boy) and then the next day I gave him some pork neck bones, if I remember right. He was fine. From then on, I fed him the same raw as my others got and his coat started flying out. He started leaving huge piles, bigger than the first few days, and then all of a sudden, it stopped. He lost the weight, his coat was gorgeous, his teeth got to the point where they no longer needed to be professionally cleaned, and his stools were very small.
I have noticed this colon cleans thing Alyssa mentioned, too. Mia was in bad shape when I got her from a botched spay. She would hardly eat, yet she pooped more than all my dogs put together...huge piles several times per day. She did this for 2 days before I fed her anything at all. After that, I was just giving her RMBs and some THK, and it continued for about a day after that. I was shocked that there could be THAT much that needed to be cleansed out. Shocking, but true.
I think you see more dramatic results immediately w/an "average" healthy dog/cat than one w/issues caused by things other than bad diet. JMO.
j/k... yeah my diet is not the greatest so whenever I try to "eat better" I always feel somewhat ill the first few days. After the "detox" though you can feel the difference. I'll bet it's what the dogs go through as well.
My dog's coat actually did have bald and thinning spots, it got so bad. I decided it was a food allergy and started an elimination diet. Looking back, it could definitely have been detox, because now he eats the things I thought he was allergic to and looks great.
