He may have done a blood test before the heartworm meds last year. I can't remember. I don't remember taking in a fecal sample, but that doesn't mean anything. I don't remember much of anything, anymore.
I guess my point is, if I had her on the heartworm meds for the entire season for my area last year and if I put her back on the meds this year for my season, do I need another blood test. My recollection was that it was about fifteen bucks whether it was blood or fecal, so the cost isnt' much.
Also, the vet may have told me that the heatworm med has something in it to prevent other kinds of worms instead of fleas.
It really sucks to become forgetful.

Yes, the heartworm meds will help prevent other worms. Roundworms, I think. Don't think that it does anything for tapeworms.
A heartworm test would be another good test that doesn't hurt anything. RARELY, a dog can get heartworm while on a preventative. RARELY.

Oh, I see what you were asking. I guess the vets go to some convention and listen to the makers of these vaccines and drugs. It is the new things now to give preventive meds every on a schedule. Of course, if you watch TV, there is now a med for everything under the sun for humans, but at least it is law that they have to tell you the side effects durning the commerical. The same law should be done with animals. Side effects should be discussed by a vet before giving animals drugs or vac's.
Drugs are the biggest money making business on this planet, legal or illegal.... Thanks Connie

There are several natural horse fly sprays on the market,Bronco makes one,Jeffers pet suppy carries one made of Cintrolla oil(sp?)Eqisect I THINK is the name of one of my favorites, its less expensive than Bronco and to me it worked better. Anything with cedar oil in it really works good.
Last yr I experimented and made my own fly spray out of skin so soft, listerine mouthwash, mineral oil, garlic and cintronella oil. It worked REALLY well except but all the animals hated me, I couldn't get the scent off of me. I think it rivalled the scent of skunk's spray it was that bad.

Yeah, and don't forget all the side effects that include anal leakage, urges to gamble and strange sexual dreams. One has to wonder what the he!! we are giving our animals. These side effects are for the human meds much less even more relaxed standards for dogs.

I don't know what happened to my post.
What the comment was:

I'm just so glad that my dog rarely has anything in her body that isn't fit for mine. (Heart worm stuff not included.)

Well damn damn,
Double damn.
We just got back from our afternoon work out and we stopped by the feed store for some sunflower seeds (yeah right, for the birds). The dog is sitting nicely, store owner wants to give her a treat; well okay, I look down to make sure she's behaving........and what do I spy but a friggin tick! This time of year!
So this is an alert. I live in some of the harshest of conditions, we still have 2 foot of snow, it still goes below 20 degrees at night, with no open ground to speak of.......and I'm already pulling ticks off of her. aaaauuuuuugh.
The useless blood suckers are on the move already.

Do you live near forests/fields?
I live near/on the coast. Please tell me the coastal breezes chase them away or something.
