Consumer Affairs.com is nothing but a blog. It's not part of the noted Consumer Reports. The response to the freedom of information act was; we don't comment on on-going investigations. They Consumer Affairs made the conclusion an investigation must be on-going. While I am as suspicious as the next person, perhaps even more so because of age, past experiences and some knowledge myself of how our great government works, I'm pretty confident in what both the FDA and Nutro told me. Of course I'll keep my eye on it. I buy Nutro by the pallet (50 bags), delivered every 30 to 40 days. All, except a couple of our geriatric dogs are on it. While at any given time a high drive working dog can develop loose stool because of stress, heat and hard work, I've seen no problems with the dogs we have. I don't know why FDA would deny an investigation of Nutro is underway, if in fact one was ongoing. What could they possibly gain. I explained to them the number and types of dogs and why I was so concerned. The cost of training, loss of dogs notwithstanding, the loss of coverage would devasting. They assured me, no investigation was underway. While I'm not going to just let it die, I'm certainly more relaxed about the situation than when I first read the story.
FDA is clarifying that Nutro Products, Inc. is not currently under investigation. FDA does not typically confirm or deny the existence of an FDA investigation. It has recently come to our attention, however, that a media report incorrectly concluded and reported that Nutro Products, Inc. was the subject of an investigation.
that was pretty much the same response I recieved from the FDA. I was pretty aggressive in obtaining an answer as I felt I had a lot invested. I've learned over the years, dog food is a touchy issue. There are those that feel you're almost an animal abuser if you feed anything but raw. There are those that believe there are only certain kibble you can feed or you just don't care about your dogs. I'm more of a results oriented type trainer/program manager. If it works, don't mess with it. The only personal opinion I've ever shared about dog food is relative Science Diet. I've said on numerous occasions I wouldn't feed it to a dead goat. Personal opinion only. I know a bunch of ole farm dogs that have lived to ripe old age fed nothing but Old Roy.Since Nutro sold out to Mars company, I'll certainly be attentive, but until given a solid reason, it ain't broke so I'm not changing.

I try really hard not to be one of those people. Unlike 25 (or even 15) years ago, there are some very good commercial products nowadays.
As for SD (and anything else made by Hills), I'm with you. Plus my dead goat won't touch it.
