I was thinking the same thing Michael. I read that many are without power. I hope they are staying warm. We have electric heat in our house so that would be a real hard time if the temps get down there, with no power. Maybe they have a good fire going?
How are you doing in your neck of the woods?
It is still raining here! The yard besides being a lake, is now so mushy and dirty.... just so much fun to get two dogs clean after coming in from being out there.
Anyhow, I hope you guys are doing well and Jennifer too!
Be safe!
There were a lot of after- action reports following the big ice storms that slammed Kentucky and an interesting part of the report revealed that the number one reason that people had to leave their home and go to a public shelter was the inability to heat a portion of their home for survival.
Needless to say, the folks that had wood stoves came out way ahead, just something to think about.........
We still have power, and we dodged the worst of the freezing rain, it was enough to coat everything but not enough to take down the trees, of which only the strongest and healthiest are still standing after the 2007 Icepacolypse.
We also are getting hammered with snow right now though, we have about 6 inches with it still coming down hard on top of that 1/2 inch of ice, the trees and lines are sagging.
We did however get rearended today and when the lady hit us she accelerated instead of braking she accelerated and pushed us into the car in front of us. Our car and everyone else is fine, there cars are screwed though. YAY for big metal cars!!
I'm going to include a link to a site that covers a wide variety of survival topics, I have contributed to this site in the past and I read it on a daily basis.
For someone new to the concept of prepping, the site has extensive archives and categories that make looking up a specific preparedness question pretty easy..... http://www.survivalblog.com/

Great site Will - thanks! We were just talking last night about a good greenhouse and first article I read on the blog recommends one. :-) I can see where I'm going to be spending my snowy day!
Thanks Melissa,
Our car is fine, and my son and husband both seem fine. Tyler had a bruise on his elbow but that is it.
I on the other hand starting hurting last night and am fairly miserable today.
That is a great site will, thank you!
We have two wind up flashlights and one of them will charge our cellphone as well. We bought them after the last ice storm and have used them several times. It is so nice knowing that they will work even if batteries are unavailable.
Don't feed your fish starting today. Your greatest danger with fish if you lose power is probably ammonia build up, more than lack of oxygen. If you don't feed them, there will be less ammonia. I have found that tropical fish can withstand quite a long power outage if you just don't disturb them. You can put a blanket over the tank to delay heat loss. Well, good luck!
