Scott Garrett: What is YOUR dog? He looks like MY dog!
I don't know. I think he's a Jindo mix based mostly on his temperament but, also on his appearance and the fact that he hit full size at five months. Possibly some other pariah mix.
He literally showed up on my doorstep one day, around 12 weeks old (he's about 17mo. now), barking his head off at the door like he lived here and wanted in. I went out to see what was going on and he followed me out the mail and back, then laid down on my feet on the doorstep. So, my wife and I kept him.
What is a Jindo?
I paid (not much!) for an ACD, but there is more than that in my guy. Mine also sits on feet: his tail is held low, however. Mine seems to have stopped growing at 6 mos. Mine weighs just under 20 lbs.-he's about 14" at the shoulder.
Here's the Korean Jindo Dog on Wiki and a YouTube clip of Jindo Dogs on Jindo Island. Essentially, they're an Asian pariah that's been isolated to Jindo Island off of South Korea and have selectively breeding themselves for hundreds of years. It's suspected that they're a cross between the dogs the mongols brought when they invaded and the Asian wolf.
My guy's 42lbs. and about 21" at the shoulder. He grew so fast in those first two months we had him that we thought he was going to be around 60-70lbs. I even posted here asking if feeding raw slowed growth down because he hadn't grown at all from 5-8 months (and still hasn't). I thought he was a white GSD for quite a while. Whatever he is, he's at least two handfuls of it with super high prey and territorial drives as well as proving to be both an excellent pet and deterrent.
I mostly want to know what he is so I can (hopefully) get something similar again someday.
