For me, I've been working with Buster on his progressively worsening aggression issues, both human and other dogs. I'm trying to undo the stupid stuff I've done over the past six years. Also on my list, I can get him to come pretty well in the house, but once he's in the back yard, it is dicey. He is very easily distracted. He might come if I offer him a cookie. I'm going to start working "come" in the back yard, and help him to ignore the birds, the squirrels, the lizards, the frogs, the possums, etc.
I am working on social issues for my dogs. All three were rescues and had learned behaviors that I do not want my dogs doing, jumping etc. My dog Cody had a brush with fear of going for a walk for awhile, but I have moved his location to a track and he really likes it once he gets there. I wish I could have had them as pups. They are great dogs, smart as whips, and rowdy as terriors can be. The biggest problem I have is people coming over and trying to interact with the pups when I want my dogs on the mats and ignoring company. This summer I plan to bring Terra (the latest dog) into heeling. I hope to get the Ellis video.
I use positive training methods but will correct when they defy what they know I want them to do.
If I ever get another dog, I will start with social issues first, then the rest, like tricks etc.
Cody is doing well after almost dying, and his energy level is higher than ever.
I am beginning with the e collars for some stubborn behaviors the dogs do. I do know they understand what I want, they just don't always want to do it.
So, here we go. Training is a life time event, I don't think there really is an end to it. Looking forward to spending more time with the pups this summer while I am off.
