There seems to be an alarming trend of LEOs shooting dogs when they really don't have to and otherwise being significantly more aggressive than necessary. Theory. A lot of combat arms personnel become LE after they get out of the service, correct? I've read several stories, from vets, about our guys killing dogs for sport over yonder. Might these be related, along with the overt force incidents that are making increasing amounts of news?
I won't say anything that Ed has expressly asked me not to but, the Nov ballot in CA could be the first step towards ending this failed policy. This is an extremely poor use of our law enforcement dollars and potential waste of LEO life. I'll be happy to discuss this further in PM.

I don't think it's bad habits from former GI's but more likely ignorance, just a viseral fear of geting bit by a critter, damn shame your average Postal letter carrier has more dog savvy then the police.
I swear, the good ol' USA is beginning to look more and more like that dystopic future like in the movie "Brazil"

That's good to know Dennis. I was worried after the mailman tried t mace my Corgi who was standing behind Garrett in the doorway when he got the mail from the mailman. It was so bizarre.

It's awful that things like this happen all the time with everyone. But Will's post is different I think. These people are supposed to be protecting us, they have access to all sorts of information and are rarely to blame for anything. Out here a lot of us hate the LAPD because of all the people being beaten on the side of the road for being Mexican. It's ridiculous. And it's scary. Especially in the bad part of town. We have the gangs against us, and law enforcement too? There's nowhere for us to go and no one to turn to. I mean really, what would have happened if they killed people instead of dogs? Even if they did get nailed for it, it wouldn't bring the people back. How can we trust these people?

anybody that knows anything about modern homes knows that a 9mm will go right on thru drywall, this unit had to of known kids were in the house and yet they decided to pop off some rounds. I've seen more restraint from our guys in Iraq doing house searches
This was my first thought Dennis! We had a situation in a nearby town where a dog attacked two people in their home, then attacked the ACO when she arrived. When the police arrived they would not shot the dog as they were unsure of the location of the people in the house, these were small town police officers!
I wish I didn't watch the video!

Katie,
The vast majority of men and woman in Law Enforcement are to be commended for their dedication and the daily sacrifices that they make for public safety.
However.......there is a troubling trend towards the militarization of certain aspects of Law Enforcement, notably in the SWAT arena.
When officers are concealing their faces with ninja hoods ( and yes, I realize that there are some valid reasons for this, but the *usual* reason is prevent the identification of the officers involved ) on a daily basis and destroying private property to include such outrages as officers *STOMPING* kittens to death during a raid ( we have the ATF to thank for that disgusting event, they're the closest thing that we have in this country to the SS and they are wildly out of control! ), eventually more and more citizens are going to say " I don't trust the police".......and that is truly the beginning of the end for this country.

Correction Katie,
They (the individual police officers) are hardly ever HELD to blame for their misdeeds/mistakes. And that's a problem that should be addressed. However.......
Let's not bash the hard working police as a whole, they have at best a difficult, and always, a dangerous job trying to protect a civilized society from some the most perverted our species can conceive.
"Run Randy run!" Unquote
Uh oh.....too late.
I can't, I tried to get rid of the evidence.

Aye, the area where I live (north of Sacatomatoes) consistently has one of the highest per capita crime rates in the state.
And yeah, I completely get what you're saying. There have have been an increasing number of incidences of LEOs shooting dogs and using too much force. We that live in or near bad areas are fairly used to it. Now that it's starting to spread into mainstream America it's becoming a real problem.
