agree.
and as for the luring him out of his "safe zone" I don't see a problem with that. don't force it, but you already know that.
Just keep an eye out for stress signs and if that starts i would let him go back.
Just keep it short but sweet...lots of high value treats to keep his mind occupied then let him go back to his safe zone, then lure him out again later and over and over.
these are the times when i wish we could just explain to them that everythings going to be ok and they don't have to worry.
He looks so much like he wants to understand when I talk to him, I wish he could. Although I am quite happy they can't talk to us LOL
I really think she will either ignore this pup or try to mother it, either one would be just fine.
I also set up the consulation with the trainer for next saturday, I am really looking forward to it just to see what she has to say, a fresh perspective is always good.
She is also the breeder/ owner of Austerlitz GSDs and they are highly involved in the working dog clubs here in town, and seem like a good kennel as far as I can tell. I'm certainly Not looking to buy, but I like what I see and that makes me feel good about her.
He is really enjoying all the extra attention he is getting, we worked on heeling last night and targeting the end of a stick. He was fairly suspicious about the stick, but didn't shut down and was visibly pleased when he figured out what I wanted from him.
He also got his first correction since it happened.
This was for stealing a juice bottle off the counter and chewing the top off of it so he could drink the mango juice LOL.
He did roll over and show me his belly, but he recovered really quickly and did not try to go to his room.
This was just a loud firm NO! BAD DOG! for him that is a serious correction.
quick question...
We are going to meet the trainer on saturday
I mentioned that I thought we should do the consult at a neutral location rather than at the house.
She said she thought doing it at the house would be best since he is most comfortable here.
I would like her to see his true reaction to a new dog, not the totally different INTRUDER!! barking and reacting he does if a strange dog comes on the property, or down the street in front of the house.
I also don't want to risk him feeling threatened in his own home again.
She should be able to be non-threatening to him. Since your going to try working with her, I would probably see what she has in mind. Do it her way and then at a certain point, it will probably be more the two of you working it out together. Counting on each others input.
