I wish I could dremmel him, it just totally freaks him out.
Jennifer, I am not trying to beat a dead horse here, but wanted to add that when I first introduced the dremel it was not turned on for almost a week. I simply had it near me while Falcon was on his place, showed it, treated, etc... Then moved on to just touching a nail, but still not on. Then evenutally turned it on but didn't touch.... etc... you get the picture. You know your dog obviously, but had I introduced it first ON - it never would have happened.
Dog nails are a pain. If only they could bite them like I did my nails as a kid! LOL!
I did all the pre-work with him and he fine. The first time I ever turned it on he tried to bolt, but we got through that and did work with it on and near him etc.
The first time I ever touched it to his nail he screamed and ran away to hide and that was the end of that.
I did NOT hurt him, or miss my target or anything.
If he so much as see it in my hand he goes into avoidance or hides.
When I vacuum he hides in the bathtub
This dog has been a total wuss from day one, we are working through additional fear issues now, but seriously he is a ninny about weird stuff.
Can you tell me how to decide on large or small? I just looked at all their claws and they're pretty similar.
Usually if the dog is cocker spaniel or smaller I use smalls. If they're larger than that the larges. You can use a large on a small dog. It's just a bit cumbersome.

So then large would be acceptable for GSD and Pugs? I'm thinking that because I have OA in my right hand, I'd like to get small. I wonder if they will work on both. Their claws all seem to be pretty much the same circumference. Or is it length or hardness that matters?

The millers forge smalls will work on an adult GSD and a pug. You'll just likely need to replace them in about a year when they're dull (you'll notice them start to twist or take more pressure to push down.)
