I am a vet tech and when I worked for a small animal vet, I got so fed up with hearing her tell people to put their animals on science diet. Any issue at all and they would get put on a prescription diet. It was sad how little she knew about animal nutrition! Finally I got tired of it and would tell the clients my point of view on the food and would refer them to a better kind. 9 times out of 10 the pet's issue would clear up and the owners would thank me the next time they came in. The vet sold the food she had been taught to sell without any knowledge of proper nutrition. It was so sad to see those people throw away their money on a junk product.
I don't remember which one of the "prescription" diets it was but one of them is essentially rice and eggs. It's a wet food that's for sensitive stomachs.
When I got my dog there was two questions I asked vets on the phone to screen them. They were how often and which vaccinations do you recommend my dog got, and what would you suggest feeding her. If they said a yearly 7in1 vax or some crap food like science diet I wouldn't even consider taking my dog to them.

I feel so lucky to live so close to Jean Dodds. More and more vets in the area are adopting her vaccine protocol. Raw diets, on the other hand, are few and far between. My vet accepts it but would rather we feed something else.
I'm not a vet tech yet but will be soon enough, and I also have been really bothered by the excess vaccines and poor diet and behavior consulting (though one of the vets I interned for had a very solid behavior background, IMO).
Part of the reason I want to go into emergency medicine is so I don't have to deal with all of the bad information out there. But mostly because I have a passion for emergency stuff.
