You asked for help in getting started......
And if I'm not mistaken we are in the PPD forum.
Or are we actually in the grieving a lost pet forum?
Or are we in the Scam artists forum?
Or are we in the Hall of Shame forum?
This thread is not about a past dog, this thread is about a future dog.
So Alyssa, your trainer recommended this breeder? Has your trainer talked to the breeder? Has this breeder a history with service dogs? Have you or the trainer physically even seen this litter?...the dam?.......the sire? Is it an A litter or a XY or Z litter?
Who's evaluated this litter?

Alyssa,
I need to ask..If the conditions for the dogs at the previous kennel were so deplorable, because there are other dogs there who are not being properly cared for why did you leave Enzo there? Why didn’t you see this when you interviewed, when you visited?
How can you grieve the loss of a dog, deal with lawyers, select a pup adequate for PP training, and select a qualified trainer in such a short amount of time?

While these are certainly good questions, this thread is not about the death of the other dog. That thread was pulled and we're not reconstructing it here.
Thank you.

Some info about the parents would be helpful... can you link up to their pedigrees? Are they titled? "PPD" is kinda generic and vague. IMO anyone messing around in their backyard can say they train protection dogs. What about schutzhund? Sometimes you can ask for better help than the folks in a good club. They can show you how to start your puppy in both obedience and protection. Even if you dont compete with your dog, the training is worth its weight in gold.
If you go too hot and heavy with too much protection too early you can really screw up your puppy and ruin its drive for the rest of its life. Thats probably why the folks here are recommending an adult dog. People who are chomping at the bit to do protection work are far more likely to skip some necessary steps and screw up the dog. My dog is 15 months old and still not ready for serious pressure in protection. Can you wait 15 months? 24 months to maturity? 3 YEARS for a psychologically mature dog that can handle real stress and pressure? Thats all we're saying. Its a looooong process. Its exhausting to think about starting allthe way from the beginning.
But. if you are ok with that, then I'm sure you can find some tips for getting started through the site. My biggest regret is not starting very basic obedience as soon as I got my Dom. Some of those Michael Ellis dvds would have been helpful.

Okay,
When we left Enzo in this mans care we did inspect where the dog was being kept and I did do a lot of research on the training facility, I was not in a hurry to leave my dog at a facility we did not trust in. W trusted the staff and trainers there. Fact is it could of happened to anyone, everything was great when we went to this kennel numerous times before we left him for the short time that we had planed on leaving him. We even got advice from his breeder before we left him. As far as following up and making this man regret what he has done to my dog and probably to others in the past, who wouldn't?! If it were your dog, wouldn't you?! And as far as the new puppy, this was unexpected for me and I was very angry when my fiance told me he has spoke with our local trainer and they found me this pup. Look people, I was simply just asking for advice, if you all want to criticize and be pushy then fine, I have take too much from people who I thought would just be helpful and friendly. But I was wrong. But to those who gave me great advice thatnk you, I appreciate it. I will not be using this forum any longer and I'm an relieved. So thank you, have a nice day.

POOF....& she's gone.
You can't possibly have sharing your whole heart with loving a new puppy, with your heart filled with so much hate & anger. (Regardless of if it is justified or not) I sure hope that she waits a while before bringing a new pup home, until she has time to heal.

Every post you made about that puppy SCREAMED I'm not cut out for this. You pushed ahead with training.
You posted, obviously showing trepidation about the trainer. We brought those fears up in the threads. You pushed ahead with training.
I don't know what happened, but you are just as much responsible for all this. Stevie Wonder could've read that dog and known to stop.
This isn't PPD advice, but dog training advice in general.
If I don't feel a million % comfortable with a trainer, vet, or groomer they aren't getting anywhere near my dog.
What about this trainer is making you ask this question here?
ALL FEELINGS ASIDE. Are you sure there isn't something in this situation that you don't feel comfortable with? The trainer? Maybe like Steve said and maybe not the right dog? Wrong plan? That post was a FULL month before Enzo died. Why were you the only one in that thread that did not know something was wrong. And you were there!
I am TERRIBLY sorry your dog died, what looks to be a HORRIBLE death. But man up. You sent him there AND left him there.
People are telling you AGAIN what they told you before. What could've saved your dog and you are blowing that advice off, yet again.
