The prong collar gave me the edge I needed to be able to control a 90# dog. Having that control kept us both safe and able to focus on our walks together. I gained the confidence to be the leader he needed and deserved which allowed him to relax and put his trust in me.
I have a micro mini prong for my MinPin (who now walks perfectly with no pulling) and have gotten into the habit of wearing it on my wrist when it is not on the dog so as not to lose it. (when we are out and about, I don't like to have it on her when in the car, for a run in the park, etc.)
It happens to fit perfectly on my wrist. Very goth looking . . .
I'd like to say that not only do I hardly even notice that it is there when I am wearing it, but I can yank on the ring as hard as I want - way harder than I would ever correct the dog - and it does not hurt! I do feel it - it is a grippy type of feel, but not a sharp painful sensation at all.
I can see small dents on my arm where the prongs meet skin, but in no way does it feel like it would ever break the skin.
Granted, most of you have larger, heavier collars, but I would think the smaller dia. prongs on the micro mini would hurt even more.
Plus any dog with coat longer than a MinPin would have further buffering.
It is not cruel.
