I had a hard time with Maggie after she was about a year old. She had done pretty well on a premium kibble for puppies by Wellness. But then she just started having loose poop on and off and didn't seem to be gaining weight. I went to a raw diet at that point. My vet was talking tests for pancreatic functioning and looking at parasites among other things...
My dog is now on a second 10 day course of metronzidole. I was crunching numbers last week and figure out that I probably wasn't going to be able to afford to keep her on boneless skinless chicken/preference through the winter (in college with fewer hours at work) and I want to keep her diet consistent as possible until she gets some weight back and her digestive issues calm down.
I decided to start her on Canidae Lamb and Rice while she was on the metronzidole and try to keep her on that during the winter months. So far so good and it feels like she might be putting some weight on. She is getting a little over 3 cups a day split up into 3-4 meals right now - or the recommended amount for a dog twice her size. She is also getting digestive enzymes (http://www.nowfoods.com/Products/M003112.htm) with her food.
