Sorry for the confusion. I went back to crating when she moved in. I tried not crating for a few days when things were going well, but it began to slide and I went back to it again. The dog has been crated or on a drag line for months now.
Its just that every time I relax even a bit she is allowed to do something bad.
I'm just upset to see all my hard work destroyed.

I totally understand Lauren,
when i moved in with my significant other it was a hard battle to get him to follow my rules.
He was of the mind that i should just let him be a dog and not correct him when he did something wrong or blew me off.
That was until he (ex)came home one day and came over to sit with me on the couch and Tucker growled at him (before anyone asks, Tucker was on the floor below me not on the couch with me)not a little one, teeth were showing.
So i said to him, Do you want me to correct him for that, or just let him do what he wants right now??? I normally would've stopped that behaviour the second i heard a growl, but i wanted to make the point. He (Tucker and the ex) requires boundaries and limits, otherwise everything goes to hell.
It proved my point. A dog of his size with a bit of a dominant streak in him is not the kind of dog you can let get away with anything. Not an inch!

If a house mate can't follow house rules, the rules don't change. The house mate does......one way or the other.
Make it clear to her, DO NOT DO THIS/THAT because me and my dog can't live that way and THE DOG AIN'T GO'N NOWHERE.
She'll get the idea.

Yes the dog needs a little refresher course, but it's the Room-mate that needs the most work!

Any chance of having a "come to Jesus"...er, heart to heart with the roommate and explain that if she can't abide by the house rules for the dog then there would be "consequences"...whatever that might be?

I was going to suggest explaining one last time to the room mate that the consequences of not being diligent with the training protocols go far beyond the incidental annoyance of whining in the crate or a chewed up makeup brush. Roomie has to understand that it is the dog's life that is on the line. Merely annoying signs of dominance are precursors to an escalating condition that can result in expensive training consults, and ultimately having to have a dangerous dog put down. If your room mate can't grasp the magnitude of the situation and support, rather than undermine, your efforts, then it is simply a bad fit and the room mate will have to go. You can take comfort in knowing you have protected your dog from a destabilizing influence and use a more refined screening process when selecting potential roomates. I think it is impossible to expect yourself alone to maintain the structure your dog needs when there is someone else living in the house. That would be exhausting.

Lol!
Its funny how hard consistency is so hard to teach to humans.
Wendy, we had a similar moment the other day. No growls or anything, but Tash decided that the perfect item to steal was a beautiful, expensive cashmere scarf.
Blush brushes, socks, undies and cheap slippers are all OK to steal.
Expensive gifts, not so much.
Maybe I should order one of those two collar one remote jobs. I will be queen alpha bitch of the house then!
If I have another housemate in the future it will probably have to be a guy. I think the transition from being just me and the dog ould have been a little easier.
Maybe I will have to get back with my ex, he's a professional dog trainer. He's a big baby, but the dog respected him.
