I applaud the eforts of the Panda Shepherd breed in her efforts in DNA testing, however she is still marketing them as something new and special.
I'll bet they go for a pretty penny.
I second what Bob said. I too, am older than dirt it seems as I remember when this all came about. I personally don't doubt that Frankie was a purebred GSD and I also applaud the fact that the breeder does testing on her breeding stock.
However, at least for me, testing is the bare minimum a breeder should do when considering breeding two dogs. This breeder now breeds for this mutation and has written her own Panda "standard". It has progressed from curiousity regarding the potential wheres and hows of a mutation to a money making venture.
I am not a GSD breeder so I might be out to lunch but if you take color entirely out of the equation I do not see GSDs that have the structure I would want to reproduce nor have the vast majority proven them in the performance arena outside of basic titles such as CD (or at least I have not seen ones with advanced performance titles on them). Granted performance titles are not and end all be all but I would have to see them working to overcome the reservations I have in reproducing that structure coupled with a genetic mutation.

I think he is more handsome then the Panda's Wendy. I've never seen one, don't know anyone that has but just from pictures I have never been able to warm up to their looks.
