Does she like yogurt? Freeze fat free yogurt mixed with green beans in a kong? I've used that one when I run out of our regular stuffing (similar to Aarons)
You got it! I use greek yogurt, or a particular brand of plain low-fat yogurt for my pups. When I have fat free plain around though, and need to stuff a kong, it's much cheaper then the super good organic stuff they get in dinner daily.
I use cream cheese smeared inside a kong or everlasting toy. It sticks almost as well as peanut butter... (and there are low fat varieties available...)
I never thought about incorporating coconut oil into a Kong formula. Sounds yummy. Remember, though, that it contains 125 calories a tablespoon and becomes liquid at about 76 degrees. So you don't want to use much if you're looking for a low-calorie formula, and it could be messy on a hot day.
My typical Kong formula is: one mashed banana, roughly 1/2 a cup of yogurt (I use full-fat but would use low-fat or fat-free if I was wanting to watch calories), and anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 a cup of peanut butter, depending on what consistency you want. That makes a batch big enough to split between two Kongs, and I pack them as full as I can before putting them in the freezer. There's usually a little left over in the bowl for the dogs (yeah, the dogs, right!) to scrape clean.
A whole Kong full of that recipe would be quite a few calories, but if you only use a few tablespoons, and you're using low-fat yogurt, I'm sure it would be a lot fewer calories than straight peanut butter.
