Guys, any help is appreciated. It has gotten from bad to worse. Kaiser has not eaten a full meal in 5 days. He has lost total interest in every thing except for helga. Helga is kept out of sight from him for 99% of the time , except when we have to go for a walk. Even then , Kaiser does not get to walk while helga is.
This might be part of the problem. Even though she's kept out of sight, he KNOWS she's there. I've found with some of my boys they are better if they can be around the female. Supervised of course :-) But crated side by side while I'm there, or taken on walks with 1 human per dog, etc. So no accidents can happen, but they can see and in a limited way interact with each other. If this doesn't help, you might consider sending him to stay at a friends or a kennel for a few days, just to give both him and yourself a metal break.

That is interesting Kadi- makes sense too, I guess. The male can see 'his' female, and knows that no one else is getting to her, even if he can't. That may be reassuring to him. Huh.

One of the first things your taught when training a dog for detection work is how their nose works.
Think about this'
If someone is cooking a pizza in the house you nose smells pizza. The dog's nose smells flour, tomato, cheese, meat, etc.
This is why trying to cover the smell of drugs with whatever just doesn't work.
With Vicks on it's nose you dog will now smell Vicks....AND the female in season!
Over the years I've had numerous unaltered dogs and bitches at the same time. The males can go for a week without even thinking about eating and some males can howl and sound like their going to die any second. ( I do understand this)
Get used to it or, as others have mentioned, send one or the other out for boarding.

I agree Bob.
Connie hasn't chimed in here. I'm interested to know what she thinks of Vicks on the nose...
Connie?

Connie is being held captive by an evil publishing house... demanding she actually work for a living vs being at our every beck and call. I hate that publishing house... let's go "roll" their headquarters, whadda say?
What Bob said in regard to how the nose works, makes perfect sense. Honest question... ARE there some odors / chemicals which are capable of masking others? I'm assuming the answer is no since from what little I've read on narcotics dogs and how near impossible it is for the bad guys to hide drugs... But then we have all these aerosol products which supposedly "neutralize odors"??
Regardless, after reading the articles Tammy linked which discuss the effects VVR has had on some infants, where it caused too much mucus to be produced making it difficult to breath, it is not something I'd be comfortable recommending again for dogs, ESPECIALLY in breeds which already have squished little faces. It may not ever cause an issue in stallions (which was even recommended by VVR, but of course, they sell the product...) or dogs with larger nasal passages, but obviously the risk is there. Better safe (and sleepless Ram...) than perhaps causing a severe reaction.

I want to report that I did not use Vicks , but put helga away, chained her and locked her up in my car garage during the nights.Did not let her out of her pert of the house, used an other door to take her out for walks. Let Kaiser sleep with me in my room when possible. Luckily I think she is going out of heat, Her genitals are less swollen today than two days back. Kaiser is still whiny but not as bad as two days back. He has not eaten well yet. Over the past 10 days he must have eaten just 2 days worth of food.
