if you allow a dog to resource guard something, what then when you do need to take something, maybe you are leaving and don't want to leave the dog unattended, or something like that?
Then I do one of the things I mentioned in my post above. I do not continue to take the treat from him, numerous times throughout the day.
You now know that your dog has a tendency to resource guard...start teaching him leave it, work on trading him items, and incorporate some obedience training into it.
Wanted to add more thing, in case someone with a young pup reads this one day...I always give my pups what I call puppy massages. Sometimes they have a great chewy...they can continue to chew, I never touch it. No anxiety that I am going to take their treat, just relaxation.
Was reminded of this by my husband when we were talking about this thread...teaches the pup that good things are going to happen if I am touching them or reaching my hands near them.
