It could have been much worse, and I could have a dead dog. That's exactly what was going through my head while it was happening. It sounds silly by my dog are nearly as important as my children will be.
I completely understand and it does not sound silly at all - our dogs may not be people, but they are very much part of the family!
Samantha, sounds like Radar did his job perfectly. Good dog!!!
I can't imagine what this guy would have done to you, your other dog, or your house if Radar hadn't been there. That's just TOOOO scary!!!
When my Malinois Toni was about 9 months old, I was attacked by a nasty cow that got out of her pasture. The cow had me pinned in a corner between the barn and the gate and Paul was trying to get me out. Toni charged in and latched onto the cow's neck breaking her away from me. Paul dragged me over the gate and Toni came to me as soon as I was out. Toni was supercharged the rest of the night from the adrenaline rush, but settled fine the next day. She's never had any lasting effects of wanting to go after cows either
He did what he is there for, if you do not want this protection then he needs to be with someone else. He will feed off of your fears and if you can not calm yourself first then he will not calm down and want to go after everything. He is a GREAT pup and you should be very proud of him, steak h!ll, give him the whole cow!!! I would take him in a heart beat, god I love Malinois. Think it over, I will come get him!!! Glad your alright.
He's doing fantastic today, as if nothing happened. I was stressed over nothing. I'm glad to see that what I thought was good breeding definitely came out and is true. Shelby is still really shut down, but that's because she's most likely trash bred and a ninny baby anyway
Glad your OK Samantha. I'd give that boy a big fat juicy steak of the prime variety, and a good belly rub. He did his job, and he did it well. What gets me is he responded to the OUT at 7 months old while he was engauging an attacker, absolutly awsome.
You must tell me where you got him.
I would definitly contact your lawyer like others have said. Just to C.Y.A , better safe then sorry.
Good boy Radar for his quick thinking, and appropriate action under the circumstance. Alot of dogs wouldn't have done that, but to your benefit and those around you, he did.
For a while I really do think Radar thought his name was Out. I even set up high stakes play problems for him to engage in and then out. Maybe beating him up a bit has really steeled his nerves to actually fighting?
I can't sing enough praise over the dogs the breeder produces, but his business attitude and ability to get things done is somewhat lacking. Registration papers may not be important to some people, but honesty and telling me how it is instead of creating empty promises is important to me.
