well right now Im actually working on duration, not distance. not more than two feet anyways.
I think the whole leash thing has grown out of the comment that I should get rid of the leash, which I pursued because I didnt understand what that meant- did that mean yall thought I was using the leash to movethe dog or are you saying not to use the leash at all.
I dont correct her from a distance because I havent got to a distance yet. I did assume that I would if I needed to because in the Basic obedience DVD I believe, there is a segment where Ed and Cindy working together on proofing a down-stay with a long line and when the dog breaks the command Cindy comes and corrects though I dont think she returned all the way to the dog before she corrected it.
It is good to know that if I have to give a correction from a distance, that I have moved to fast, though.

Did you know that you have a couple of PMs?
The Basic Ob DVD, even though it has been redone (in 2010), doesn't purport to be a "marker DVD."
I admit that I haven't seen the whole redo -- only the whole 2006 version. I'm not sure how much of an intro to marker training it now contains. I think it just touches on marker training.
For your questions, I would focus on the marker DVDs.
I'm thinking (and a conversation with others who have quicker brains than mine tells me I'm not alone) that what seems to be missing is the bridge I mentioned above .... The intermediate bridge, as opposed to a leash correction, is the "reminder" that the dog hasn't been released from the exercise yet.
This would also mean that distraction proofing is in the future ... not now.
"The part that I needed to go back on was teaching the down from a stand instead of a sit and the whole precision heeling process, with a touch tub."
You concentrating to much on the individual behavior instead of the method of training. I believe you need to understand the process of marker training better before you worry about teaching and correcting individual behaviors. Again, the DVD will explain most all of what you need.
Just saw them! I guess I only look for that flashing letter from the old board..
ok thanks for the pointers Bob and Connie I will rewatch the DVDs again
