ahhhhhhhhhh! This is the part of dog ownership I just hate!!!!! Had 2 dogs 4 years ago that had to be put down, they were old, 17, sometimes I look at my pups I have now and think just how incredibly hard it will be when the time comes for them. I just can't think of it. I want to enjoy my time with them now.

I've decided to get another GSD pup some time in the late spring or early summer. This past month has been clearly evident that, for me, life without a dog isn't really much of a life at all.

I just reread this thread with tears in my eyes. Eighteen months ago I lost my 6 year old GSD Dillon suddenly to hemangiosarcoma. Like your boy Apollo, Dillon had helped me through the earlier loss of a much loved dog and had become my inseparable companion. I was a wreck for a while - but I did eventually get another GSD pup. Some say the dog that has gone will send you the next one, and I believe it. I still miss Dillon, but raising and training Zevi has helped me heal. He is my new buddy with his own quirks and personality, and so we go on.
The next GSD pup will be out there for you,and I know you will love him or her as much as you loved Apollo. All the best.
