I haven't watched Tuesday night yet, I am surprised the Pekingese won, given that it had to be carried the 'long walk' to the show ring.
Also, it pained me to see the hind end of the GSD. That is breed standard? I guess I am too used to Jethro and Skippers nice straight hind legs. I can't imagine that GSD could really move very well?
The SHOW folks have done that to their dog lines. They USED to look like the WORKING LINE dogs. Like a NORMAL GSD should look. UGH!
I basically watch some of it to see what 'new' breeds that come up with. I hate what they have done to the bully breeds along with the GSD & others. It's sad that these are now the 'standards' that people are breeding to. Very sad!
I think the Pekingese was actually a long hair Gibbon monkey
Darn! I was sure that it was a living dust mop with a face or maybe a mutant sewer rat! Sad to see a dog that couldn't even walk properly win though. We're still debating here if it really was a dog or a monster under the bed pretending to be a dog for the night.
The Peke is the classic example of a head breed. If the head is correct not much else counts. The poor critters are so deformed in the body that movement sure isn't much of a consideration.
Well......there is that political stuff.
In defense of any breed that wins, politics aside, the judge selects the dog that most closely fits the breed standards. They are actually not being compared to one another by breed.
..........If that were the case then a terrier would win every time.
Speaking of breed standards, that get ignored in favor of an exaggeration from the breed standard itself. For example in the GSD it says "SLIGHTLY sloping topline" preferred...yet if you can't slide down its back it won't be put up. WTF?
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog.
