I haven't had a problem with the springer slipping on my Roadmaster, and I didn't even use contact cement. Are you sure you have enough of the inserts in there and you put the cement on both sides (post and cover)? If you have an old/cheap bike you can try to rough up the finish under the springer a little with sand paper. However, this isn't too good of an idea if you have a nice bike. Also remember to check the brake pads more often, because you will wear them out quicker when biking a dog .
I use a harness on Auster, and after she warms up a little I quit pedaling (I do pedal uphill, don't want to be accused of cruelty) and give her the okay to run as fast or slow as she wants (which is usually all out). That's what really wears her out. Right now she just has a plain nylon harness from Walmart but I'm considering making her a sled dog type (x back) harness (although my family might object since the harness/leash/collar drawer is overflowing and I have enough stuff for about 3 dogs).
I'll try to get a few pictures while I am home for the summer. I'm very happy with it and the springer has been great when we didn't have a fenced yard.

It's a decent bike, but I'm not adverse to sanding the seat post. I'm using two of the inserts, which seemed adequate during installation. I'll try adding the third one and see if that helps.
I guess I'm cruel! I'll let her pull me uphill if she feels like it! But I do as you do, which is let the dog set the pace. We also take frequent breaks, and I don't let her run on hard surfaces, but keep her to a jog. When we get to places where there is grass next to the bike path, she is allowed to run. But I have to be careful, 'cause she likes to race with other bicyclists!

One more question: Are you letting the contact cement dry before you put it all together? That makes a difference.
If I used a nicer bike I might let Auster pull me uphill, but even after all sorts of cleaning and lubing it still doesn't run too smoothly. I prefer pedaling to putting the springer on the Gary Fisher bike .

Hi Lauren - the X back harnesses don't work as well with a Springer as they are meant to pull straight back. Your plain nylon harness probably is a better bet. Checkout the
http://www.howlingdogalaska site and check out their "Guard" harness -
these are popular with skijor which has a higher point of pull as would the the Springer.
Lisa - where is it slipping - the plastic sleeves themselves or the metal bracket over the sleeve?
Maybe a thin layer of silicone sealant between
metal bracket and plastic sleeve would help if it is slipping there. My apologies for not shipping the little devil sooner but glad to see you got one and the dog likes it.

Thanks all, I appreciate the help.
I won't be coming here anymore, seems I made the mistake of saying something to mr. frawley he didn't like.

Lauren, yes I did let the contact cement dry. It was hard, as I can be an impatient sort and wanted to get out and try it right away. But I DID follow the instructions!
Lynn, I think it's the first plastic sleeve (the one that goes directly on the seat post) that is slipping.

This is definitely one of the most hilarious posts I've seen in a while.

Iam new to posting here at Leerburg. My last suggestion I made ( about neutering) I failed to cover my entire experience with the subject and I was torn apart by several
others. Your problem is everyone's problem with almost all dogs and You recieved some great advice. Tom
