I had developed callouses on my fingers because I was also stripping other folks dogs for the show ring.
Speaking of showing
If you want to show the OES in even the OB ring it can be DQd if the eyes are trimmed to see better.
Even putting a ribbon or hair pin in the eye fall is illegal.
Now saying this I haven't been seriously involved in AC OB for a number of yrs so hopefully this has changed.

I have decided to take Candi's advice and just stick to paw clipping, and not even that until I see whether the snow balls up on the feet or not! The eye veil would certainly help keep the eye area warm!
Someone here had a border that they refuse to pluck, and he looked god awful and smelled bad in the summer monthsM sadly they were off leash owners, and the dog ended up drowning in our river after their canoe tipped. They lose their elkhound on the same river 2 years before, in the winter. He just ran off and never came back.

You can always try something like the Musher's Secret on the paws to prevent snowballing up if you don't want to clip:

The Border terriers coat can come in different lengths.
My male didn't need a lot of grooming but his coat was longish.
His sire only needed to be "touched up a bit.
My female looked like a Benjie dog un groomed.
My Norwich had a very heavy coat.
JRT was also rough coated.

Oh, and Niomis' Zombie Slayer would probably be much easier to groom. No callouses on your fingers.

Hey Kelly!!
Mushers secret and some other brand of paw wax we had never worked on the pyrs, but as each dog is different, we def will be trying that before I trim under the paws!
Bob, I certainly love that scruffy terrier look, Bandit never got a big winter coat, so was subjected to jumpers in the winter! My pyrs, when they blew their coat could cover our 2 acres in fluff..which really pleased the birds! I still find nests filled with that fluff!
Christina, I am a sucker for grooming, and can do it for hours
it is relaxing for me and was mostly enjoyable for any of my dogs minus Jazz!
My border used to get a little foot massage during the underpart stripping, and he would pucker his lips, was hilarious!

Wow, you find this relaxing fo hours? Cheers. how many drinks do you need while doing this?
With my Pits I've got quasi nothing to do like this. Just regularly brush to control the fur and as caress.

No less? Wow, so you kill half a bottle or more. But why not, if grooming like that goes more smoothly.
