Shedding is a real problem with a gsd. I am trying "Mrs.Allens shed stop". now on mine. I have some friends who use it and swear by it.
You put approx 3tbls on their food a day and most of the daily shedding stops. Of course seasonal sheding is still a problem. Hey can't hurt to try it although it's about 45-50 $ per gallon
I find it hard to believe that something you put in a dog's food could stop it shedding, esp. when it comes to German Shedding Dogs. It's part of their physiology, not a defect.
Wood floors, area rugs, and constant vacuuming are the sum total of our strategy. A GSD is worth the effort.
I can't resist adding this story. I took my pickup in for a tuneup recently and asked the mechanic if he would check on my air conditioner fan which was making a terrible whirring sound! When I came to pick up my pickup, the mechanic laughed and held up a sandwich baggie size conglomeration of dog hair and lint which he had taken out of the fan! Hence, the whirring! He said to run the fan/ac/heat always with 'fresh air' to help avoid this problem. He thought it was pretty funny!

I had to laugh at this thread.... especially the comment about the butter dish. Think about this... How many times have you gone to eat something and found a dog hair on your plate or in your food.... you pick it out and continue. But if you find a human hair on your plate at a restaurant.... you get sick to your stomach and can't continue??
Two long haired golden mixes, a husky, and now a GSD, we no longer consider them dust bunnies, they're tumbleweeds  . If I could make yarn out of it I'd have enough to clothe a small third world country .
Being very new to this forum, I had to post to this topic. Dog hair in the car? But of course! No outfit or car is complete without GSD hair.
