I hear you. I was a bit warm upon reading the post. But Yes, in a good light. I have been scorned on my motorcycle sites I frequent ( for some yrs, time flies when you really look at it) for posting things that are toooooo long. But yes, they were bred for human compatibility. Its almost like Joe bob and Jed Fred want to fight their dogs in the yr 1890. I mean, burglary and such was almost non-exisitant. Dogs were bred to have what is caslled gameness. That means that they were not bred for aggresiveness. Aggresiveness has little to do with this. Gameness is the ability and dirve to want to go into action with another dog. I have seen Mal's and other breeds that were "aggresive" and were very aggresive. But no Mal any day could keep up with the intensity of the APBT. Never. Period. It would Never happen. Why? The Mals/other breeds drives are in different places. Different areas. I would have kids around a good ol APBT anyday. No probs. They have a higher tolerance for pain than most. They also have a higher human trust factor than I have EVER seen with ANY dog. If any dog gets into a car accident, for example, you try to help them but they WILL mostliekly bite you, the owner, the pack leader. But do this with a pit and they readily await your assistance and help. They do not bite out of pain or anything like this. I have yet to be bitten by a APBT that has been injured of any sort. I have been bitten by a golden retiever as a kid in 3rd grade whom was choking on a rag that had a dead blue jay bird in it that he killed. He was in that fight/flight mode which caused him to attack me being in that survival mode.
I can go on and on. Basically, APBT's have no right being in certain folks homes. In the right hands and with the right intuition they will make GREAT dogs. Hands down are my personal favorite. I just don't have one now as the new landlord that bought the property placed a ban like just about every property arounbd the area. No pits, rotts, dobies, chows, or shepards. Why? B/c of people who just don't do any homework or very minimal and think they can make things conform to their situation when you and I know will NEVER be the case.
From 4th grade on up many yrs later, I have yet to have a pit attack on another dog or human for that matter in the time I have had them up til about 2 yrs ago. Which would make it more than 15yrs. Why? You have to be responsible and know what that dog is all about. I mean, could you expect a bloodhound to NOT track if raised in a home that doesn't train it to? do you expect a border collie to not round up kids, duck, cattle, etc when you don't raise him to? They will do it regardless. Its their nature. If you own an APBT then you have to KNOW that he'll be human friendly all day lon. But another dog comes in and he'll be cautious. This being a mature dog if the other attempt to growl, then these guys don't cower like a lab would. He will take care of business. So they must do their homework before buying a dog that has different drives and mind frame. APBT make great dogs in the right hands. POint blank. They make HORRIBLE dogs in the wrong hands as any dog breed or mutt would.
So I wil say that its never the dog, its the amount of effort, research and time one puts in place before, upon arrival, and during the quest of owning a particualr dog to ensure its rightful days alive....
