I only just noticed this post... you say the guy is from the UK? I was in London the week they had the anti-war demonstrations going on years ago (I believe it was the end of 2001? I don't recall), you could sit in a coffee shop on the edge of London n watch nothing but buses for hours and hours filled with protestors from the entire country swarming in. I walked thru London while all these people were walking around with signs trying to shove fliers into my hand trying to protest a war that they knew nothing about. I have photos somewhere of all this too. The only thing these probably tens of thousands, if not more, people had achieved in their days of protest was to litter the streets with even more crap than it already was! I was in a restaurant overhearing the stupidest conversations I had ever heard - and my conclusion was simply this:
"The majority of the people out here are treating it like a day trip with their family, following all the other headless chickens, because their lives would otherwise be too boring."
Unfortunately many people in the world have this mentality, even here in the US. And it's usually the ignorant and uninformed. That's not to say everyone in the UK is like this, it's impossible to stereotype an entire country or continent, but as always, the majority ruins the reputation for the minority, and the majority doesn't think "WHY", they just copy whatever other people say. If you ask someone why they have a certain belief, it usually boils down to "because my parents told me" or "because my friends told me", and unfortunately the majority of people think this way. PETA is a great example, as is every other extremist anti-conformist group in the world. This goes for politics, religion, war, dog training, cars, and everything else in the world that can be put into a group. Some groups are just smarter than others...
Can I just say...
"Some people are like slinkies,
not really good for anything
but they still bring a smile to your face
when you push them down a flight of stairs." <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
I am still amazed by he ignorance of mankind... I think this is why I like my dogs more than most of the people that I meet.
My thoughts exactly. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
