First post, but have to add to this thread. My undocked rottie was only 5 months old when we took her with us to a hotel in West Palm. She's running around the place, making friends and amusing everyone, when a well meaning, but not too bright fellow, says.. nice dog..lemme guess.. Doberman and lab mix? I just nodded and said, good guess! The other one, in the local petsmart while she was even younger, an employee looks, says oh, isn't she sweet. She looks almost like a full blooded rott! I agreed with him too..just easier I guess.

O.K. I have some fairly decent ones. In the past year that I have had my imported male, he has been called:
a chow
a wolf
an akita
a collie
a keeshound (sp?)
and alot of "he's a mix....right?"
and my personal favorite, spoken by a mother to her two kids, "Oh look sweeties, a saint bernard"
I even turned around to see where the st. was. Boy was I shocked to see my dog standing behind me. lol.
One lady asked me, "What type of dog is that"
me: "German Shepherd"
her: "German Shepherd and what?"
me: "German Shepherd and German Shepherd. Its called a pure bred, you ever heard of 'em?"
I also get asked about the tattoo in his ear alot. My three favorite replies to that are:
"Well, you know, I told him when he turned 18 he could get whatever he wanted, as long as it wasn't a piercing"
"He joined a biker gang. They all have them"
and my favorite
"He was drunk, it was college, you know how that goes"

Hmm- After the umpteenth question of where are the eyes on the BigBlackHairyDogs (aka Black Russian Terriers) and how do they see... I just started answering that I removed their eyes when I docked the tails at three days of age. And amazingly enough people would nod their head and agree that it must increase their sense of smell and hearing- after all dogs are colorblind and nearsighted so don't really need to see.

If you want stupid questions- Get a mal.
What is that?
A malinois.
A maliwhat?
Malinois. M-A-L-I-N-O-I-S
Oh, MaliNoise...
NO, he is pretty quiet.
After going through this with a couple of people at a Petco- THEY- proceeded to tell me how large he would be and pointed to their lab puppy. Remember they didn't even know what he was!

That's Funny!!!
At Christmas this year I brought Jackie to my extended family party... one of my cousins told me he loved her puppy color, but how they always lightned up as adults. I told him she is a Black Sable and probably will get darker as her long hairs grow in more. "A Sable?" he asked "I thought she was a German Shepherd?" Nope... here's your sign!
My Boss when I told him I bought a new puppy asked are you going to train her? I told him yes in Schutzhund. He said "I thought you bought a German Shepherd. You are going to train a weiner dog?" Nope... here's your sign!
My co-worker asked so where did you get her from? I told him "Slovokia". He said "So does she speak english?" I told him "Only when she is not cursing at me!" Here's yor sign!

I get ALOT of people asking me how their American Line Shepherd is dofferant from my German Line Shepherd. I used to point it out, differance by differance, now I just say: "Well, the main differance is, mine barks with an accent"

Ok, can't help but add to this post. Some of those were great. The ones I've gotten that amuse me the most are:
"How old is your rottweiler puppy?" (asked of my 6yr old black and tan chihuahua)
Caleb (GSD) was eating a chicken on my front porch when someone walked by and sagely stated to his companion "See how she's feeding him raw meat? Makes him blood thirsty, so he'll attack."
This one made me laugh. I was in Blockbuster holding my chihuahua (not in a Gucci bag-we'd been walking and I decided to grab a movie. I need to make it clear that I am not one of THOSE little dog people when the guy next to me exclaimed "Holy %$T*! So THAT'S what happens when you leave a doberman in the dryer too long!"
This one is sad. My neighbor was complaining to me about another neighbor's former dog. He said that he had always tried to be patient about the barking, but what finally made him call the police and have the dog removed was when the little girl told him the dog had rabies. The dog was being treated for SCABIES! Animal control took the dog.
I have a hard time being charitable to some of the people who are so ignorant that they actually cause harm through their stupidity.
