Okay, the more I think about this, the more it bothers me....probably shouldn't say anything, but I work around cows......
This statement is untrue.
Plus the fact that all kinds of wild game that we feed to dogs eat out of the cornfields as well.......
I think that it is absolutely true that cows evolved to eat grasses.
Because this is a dog forum, the only reason I'm replying to this is to point out that grain-fed slaughter meats are a huge factor in the modern Omega-3-missing diet.

The source for my info on what cows are supposed to eat comes from "The Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollen. He says in the book that corn is a natural mutation and is used in cow feed in the industrial scene because it is very calorie rich. However, cows are not designed to eat corn they are supposed to graze on grass, and they get sick because we feed it to them; this is why they inject antibiotics. The author actually bought a cow and visited it in the field, and at the slaughterhouse...pretty interesting reading...
So, I am just repeating what is written in that book. Do you have any info on cows naturally eating corn, Carol? I am interested in your perspective as someone who works with cows.
As far as the wild game being fed to the dogs, I agree with you. I remember dove hunting as a kid. Once, Dad pulled out the stomach, and you could see all the little milo seeds in there! Birds eat grains naturally. Cows graze.
