If I chose a malionis, there is no way I will rehome. I will be like Carol and re-evaulate what I'm doing wrong and find a way to meet its needs. If I chose a specific breed, it is my responsible to meet their needs in order to make them happy and stable.
Lindsay, this statement makes me very, very happy. And I know that you would do your best and beyond.
I should say that IF anyone raises a dog and finds it to be too much for them OR not what they are looking for, then I have no problem with finding a suitable home for the dog.
I have had dogs that were not going to work out here for what I want in a SAR dog and decided to make them a pet and give them a good home, and then someone responsible (would feed raw or all natural kibble and no or minimal vaccines ect....) came along looking for a dog and the dog I had "fit" them and their life style, I have placed them. However, I do not advertise and I do not give up.
But to get a breed and then just give up and rehome due to lack of wanting to put forth an effort is something I do not agree with.

Hey Lindsay, is your friend a trainer in the 2 sports your interested in? If thats who you would be working with his opinion should have a lot of influence on your decision. Also, have you trained dogs in any kind of dog sports before? Your past experience in that not just breeds you've owned could help with your choice. I don't know much about either but with what I've watched it looks like a very high level of training.

It seems that you already have a negative opinion of mals with out knowing much about them. I would not get one if i were you. Sounds like a greyhound would be a good choice for you. They will run around for awhile then plop down on the couch and chill.

My friend who is a trainer has MR title on his malionis and his dog is ready for MR 2. He hasn't done French ring, but he has many years of experience with schutzhund. His training style is pretty much similar to Bob Scott even though I haven't seen Bob doing any training with Thunder.
Lately we have a problem finding a training field. He prefers to work with the club rather than himself. We need props and some people have stuffs that they can bring in like Cindy used santa stuffs to get Rush feel comfortable.
Lee,
Obvious, you don't know anything about FR and MR. I find your suggestion on greyhound invaluable and pointless. I do not think you understand what I am looking for in a dog.

Since thats who you would be learning from thats probably whose opinion you should listen to. Be ready for prey drive, I don't think anything your told or read about is much help when it comes to actually living with it.

Whoa Lindsey!
I Didnt mean to offend you. To be honest i read your original post and made a remark based on that without reading the rest of the thread. My mistake!
I`m sure you will do the research and make a great choice on a breed that will fit both of your goals for fr and mr and the right amount drive.
I am new to mals myself and the proud owner of Eagle V. Kaiserhaus(Diesel). He is a handful but i couldn`t be happier with him. Diesel has great drive and does everything asked of him when we are training, but he is not so crazy the rest of time that he is a pain. I plan on doing schutzhund with him.
If you do ever get a mal, i would get one from cindy. Just tell her what you want in terms of temperment and your goals for the dog i.e. fr,mr etc. and she will pick the right one for you.
Again i didn`t mean for my response to sound snide. Hope we can still be friends.
Good luck and talk to you later!
Lee

Lee,
I appericate it a lot. I'm sorry if I jumped the wrong conclusion too. The reason I had to ask a couple question about Malinois because I don't know if it is the right breed for me.
I wanted to see if there are other breeds I can do MR and Fr with. Many people I know from the dog world kept suggesting me a malinois. I really don't mind, but it seems like they might be too handful for me.
Awesome! I'm sure you got a great puppy from Cindy. Do you have any plans with Eagle? I'm sure that Cindy can find me the right puppy, but I'm sure it takes a while for her to get to know me.
