Why do you mix the two foods? I am switching from canidae to innova. I thought innova was better. I have labs and the shed way too much on canidae. I am hoping innova will be better for them.
I feed canidae dry, but mix in some different wet food (evo, eagle pack, merrick) for a little change. Plus also salmon oil, vit.E daily and a raw egg a few times a week.
There is no one food that can cover all the nutritional bases, fed every day forever.
I believe that if you feed commercial foods, you do best by incorporating variety. (Always reserve a protein source for the possibility of an elimination diet needed someday down the line, as discussed before; that means a meat that the dog *never* eats and has *never* eaten.)
Various protein profiles will provide various combinations of amino acids; this is a good thing. In addition, the micronutrients will vary from one recipe to another.
And yes, fish oil and Vitamin E daily -- because there is no kibble that provides intact long-chain Omega 3s in any appreciable amount. (Don't fall for the Omega 3 claims when the source is flax or canola!)

I was going to feed innova, salmon oil and give a supplement (NuVet). I am afraid that it will be too much. Overdose on vitamins and mineral. Thoughts?

What is in NuVet?
I am NOT a big fan of multis. And when a commercial food is supplemented with vitamins and minerals, then I have your same concern.
Fish oil and E (and many people give C) -- that's about it for me, for a healthy dog, unless there is a specific problem, and even then one would give the specific supplement. JMO.

Yes, I give 2 meals a day 2 cups kibble with half a can of wet each feeding. I usually mix egg on one meal sometimes some chicken livers or venison mixed in. I do the salmon and E in one meal (2 tsp oil and 1 400IU E)

I am new and don't know how to give you a link. Sorry for the trouble. You can go to NuVet labs.com. It has vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, etc. I am changing to innova from canidae....not happy with my labs coats.

I am with Connie, except for, I do not give Vitamin C but I do give kelp and alfalfa. These are inexpensive supplements that
help these things:
Kelp/Alfalfa
(scroll up to see Kelp)

Connie what does the extra C do for dogs?
I personally don't give C to healthy dogs, but that is NOT universal. I'm considering it, anyway. Reading up on C for dogs with no dysplasia, etc.
There are conditions for which ester C has been shown to be *very* beneficial, despite the dog's ability to make C (unlike us).

Also, I don't have puppies, so I'm not the best person to ask about C (since I have read many times about benefits to growing dogs of extra C).
