I have a vet opt. on wednesday morning. I tryd to get one sooner but thay don't have one. I will see what she has to say about all of it. i will kepp you all in touch.
I have to say I'm having an extremely hard time with your vet. First she wants to give constant vaccinations, then she tells you diarrhea is normal with pups, that the pup would have it for a few more weeks and to just wait it out, now the stool sample comes back diagnosed with salmonella and the vet doesn't tell you what to do and how to treat the puppy???? What the HAY???
What kind of vet is that???
You need to get hold of another vet, see if you can't do better. I doubt you're obligated to see the vet at the base.
Meanwhile, call your vet - don't wait until Wednesday - and ask how to treat the salmonella. Make her tell you over the phone. The pup is in distress and needs treatment NOW!!!

Sandy,
I think Christi was trying to quote what Sarah Morris said in an earlier post and the quotes did not work, and then she was asking what Sarah did as far as treatment.
It took me a bit too as there was only like 5 minutes between her saying she had an appt. to the next post....
But I totally agree that I would find a different vet, preferably not on the military post.

Yeah, that was my story, Sandy.
Christi: I really hesitated to mention it because salmonella freaks people out and I didn't want to upset you any further.
The point is/was: Weeks of diarrhea has to be investigated...there is a reason for it...and sometimes a little more needs to be done than waving the hands with "puppies have loose stool". I'm a big believer in fecal cultures because they uncover things that simple fecal floats do not. And, it may not be a bug at all.
As for my pup, he was on antibiotics for 10-14 days and it cleared right up. Salmonella is NOT the worst thing a pup can have, IMO. And no, he wasn't on raw...he was kibble-fed at the time.
One more thing: call around to the vets in your area. Talk to the manager and ask if they offer a Military Discount. Many do and that can really help offset any vet fees you may incur.

No one has commented on my post regards Goran which was a similar case, If you have given it treatnment before and it has remained now for weeks then ask your Vet to do a Scope etc
Plus one thing no one has mentioned here, have you pulled up the skin of the Pup if it does not go back immediatly then look for the Pup to be dehyrated or on the way to be that
Hi, we went to see our vet to day. It turns out that he has ring and hookwormes . So we are getting it taken care of. Thanks for all your help.
About the vacc: The vet we had our opt. with to day said boosters are only a must if you take your dog to the dog park(I will never do!), and she said I was the first person to say that I would not be doing that, and so thay forget to tell that to the vet tack's that there (I gess thats who I talked to when I called to see what he must have for living on post)not a must, but thay think you should get them anyway. The only true must is dis-temper, parvo and raibies . Great news, and thanks again. Christi.
