Thanks so much, Connie. I'm such a Nervous Nelly.
I have read (and re-read and continue to re-read) the marker traing on this web site. Started it about 2 or 3 weeks ago and at first I thought my little pup was so hyper that she wouldn't do it. I looooovvvveeee the marker training, now. She already sits without a treat at random when I ask her, also, before feeding her, and before we go out the door with just praise. It's almost magic the way marker training works.
This site is so helpful.
Money is a tight right now but in the very near future I will be ordering some of the DVD's. Mine is just a little dog, but so far, the info I have gotten from this web site works for her, too.

You can be listening to the podcasts, too.
Little and big dogs..... I cannot think of one training thing that changes based on size. There are more potty runs to accommodate the small bladder, but that's about it.
You will see big and small dogs having training on the videos when you get them (such as Basic Ob #302), and you won't see any differences in technique.

I got her weighed and she is 7lbs, 3oz. She had her halter on so I rounded to 7lbs.
So, please correct my math if I am wrong, again.
That would put her 5.6oz split between two meals on the low end to 11.2oz split between two meals on the high end.
So, should I feed her 3oz twice a day plus high value treats? Will that be enough? Or should I feed her toward the high end and give her 5-6oz twice a day plus treats.
Also, I have gone to every store except one looking for chicken backs and necks with no luck. What can I feed with the wings to make them optimum for her. I can occasionally buy a whole chicken and give her just the backs and necks, but I can't eat that much chicken with what would be left over.
I also got her some pork neck bones. These are very meaty. Should I consider one a meal or a recreational bone? I ask this in reference to her being a small dog.
Thanks,
Nora
ps
I will post about the podcasts on another thread

I also got fish oil pills (1000 mg fish oil, 180 mg EPA, 120mg DHA) for when I start these and Vit E 400mg.
How much and how often with these supplements?
Thanks,
Nora

One (1 gram, or 1000 mg) per ten pounds of dog.
So for now you could pierce and squeeze half of it, and soon she will need the whole one.
Vitamin E -- you want about 100 IU (E comes in International Units) for such a small dog, so you could either save those for you or pierce and squeeze.
There's no evidence that dogs have a toxic dose of E, but 400 IU for a 6-pound dog is quite a bit over the dose recommendations.
But it's not expensive, so it's not tragic if you have to pierce and squeeze, discarding some.... and you could always share instead of discarding.
All JMO.

Thanks,Connie.
They were very reasonable. About four bucks for 180 fish oil and about fours buck for 125 Vit E. I think I'll share them with her and pierce and squeeze.
I didn't know that the omegas were changed with the way our feed meat is being grown and processed. Now I understand why on all the nutrition segments on morning television, they are always telling you that you need fish oil and omegas. I alway believed if you had a balanced diet of fresh food your body would be your guide to what you needed and you would not need supplements and vitamins (for healthy people). After reading your posts about omegas and doing further research on the internet, I now have a better understanding of why we need them.
It's a dang shame that our food has gotten to the point where you can extrapolate valuable advice for human diets from a web site about feeding dogs.

"Omega" as a blanket term covers 6s and 3s (and 9s).
Omega 6s are essential, but are now overabundant in the modern diet. It's only 3s that are in short supply now.
And some of the 3s in marine sources are the beneficial long-chain EPA and DHA. Canola, flax, etc., are poor substitutes for humans and no substitute at all for dogs (who cannot convert short-chain 3s to long-chain 3s, something humans do at an inefficient rate of maybe 5 to 15%; doga are close to zero).

Day Three.
The olive oil worked. She finally pooped this am after feeding. And pooped and pooped and pooped. Till it got a little runny. I offered her some pumpkin later but she wouldn't touch it.
She threw up a little again this afternoon (apx 3 hrs after feeding) but this time it wasn't frothy. It was turkey. I think she is just getting used to the change.
This evening I mixed in a little pumpkin with the ground turkey for good measure.
She REALLY seems to love this raw food.
I am soooo glad that I have changed her to raw.
Now that I am getting the hang of it, I can't wait to see her with the chicken, bone and all. That will start tomorrow pm meal.
