im just scared i read all theese horror stories this morning on this site and im like whao what should i do
Oh crap, Michael. Please accept my apology.
I forgot about all the horror stories in that link in your other thread.
While they are stories that you should hear, I should have pointed you to other helpful links like the ones above, too. So that you would have more of the "other side" of the story.
Those stories can be pretty scary if you've never known another way. Sorry for any extra worry that might have been prevented. Just the vaccination decision alone is enough stress for a new owner.
ya big jerk haha, joking, yeah ill look at those links also, i mean i think he all pretty much up to date on his shots now so i dotn think he will be needing anything other then his rabies shot
Speaking from personal experience and opinions based on my own research and learnings... I find that adult dogs with parvo is very rare. You menioned that you saw dogs die of parvo ....
You addressed this to me. Perhaps you meant someone else?
What is the most amazing thing to me about the whole vaccination issue is that back in the 70's when I was working for an inner-city vet.......the drug companies who made the vaccines all started this "yearly booster shot" deal as a Marketing ploy. There was a lot of resistance initially from traditional vets (I used to read the AVMA journals) because a lot of them thought it unnecesary.........it was being pushed hard by the drug companies as a money maker with very little regard to any actual health concerns. I remember my Dad at the time scoffing at the thought of all these shots.....his mum raised and showed Kerry Blue Terriors and their big fear was distemper. Also back in the day a rabies shot was supposed to be good for 10 years.............anyone else remember those days?
One other thing.....there are so many strains of Parvo and the current vaccines only target a few so what is the point of them?
I am with the no vaccinations group.......and very thankful to have this site with all its links to refer people to.
Lynne, thank you! This is just what I wanted. I decided to postpone my pup's shots before his "program" ended because he was getting progressively sicker. With a mandatory rabies/license ordinance in my city, I'll use this service toward the goal of never having to give another shot to my two.
Anna, if you are getting a titer for rabies, be aware that most states (maybe all), do not accept them in lieu of vaccinating. I believe that you have to get a waiver from your vet, which you may have a good argument for, if your pup has had prior vaccination reactions...
I'll be doing titers for distemper/parvo, but not quite sure how I'll handle the rabies situation yet...
I know this sounds bad of me but I just have to ask. dose any one know what will happon by law if you never get the rabies and someone finds out? like is it a fine, will they take the dog or just say you have 30 days to do this? Trust me, I'm not a law breaker but on this one is it werth it? or is the out come bad or just a pain?
As far as I know, where I live, the only times an unvaccinated dog could get into trouble with the city is if they bite someone (and the bite gets reported to animal control) or if there's a big rabies outbreak right in the city.
Otherwise vets don't push the issue and the city doesn't seem to care either (registration is required but they never request any kind of proof of rabies vaccine). In 12 years of dog ownership I've never been asked once about my dogs' vaccination status by the city.
