But you know I just can't agree to saying congratulations on the pups this is why the shelters are full of unwanted animals.
Again not meant as a shot at Stephanie and her efforts. But the reality that lead Stephanie to be in the care of this dog and litter, makes me very upset.
I think Angela was just making the best out of a less than desirable situation. I'm more than certain that EVERYONE on this forum is 100% behind your sadness and frustration at this story Geoff, and your comments are a welcome shot of reality, but in all honesty, by the time the first post went up, that ship had sailed so far it was nearly docking at a far away port.
For those of us with our heads on straight taking care not to contribute to these problems, sometimes the best we can do is try to clean up OTHER people's messes, and small victories should be acknowledged as long as they're in context. I for one am glad that 4 puppies didn't die in a filthy corner of an overcrowded house last night, so I'll congratulate whoever avoided that fate, however hollow the victory.

Stephanie, a big thanks for intervening for this mama dog and her pups. Kudos to your vet also for caring for them and helping you to care for them.
Thank goodness you are willing to step-in and give these pups a chance and the poor mama already has a decent new home to go to.
What is to stop these people from getting another dog in the future?

Thanks Natalya,
yes to clarify, I meant congratulations to Steph for helping deliver those pups successfully, alive and well, and doing what needed to be done (going to the vet, bottle feeding, etc), even though she was not prepared for it. If it was not for her who knows what would have happened to them. Also I think congratulations is in order, because Steph is a VERY responsible person who will have these animals fixed and take good care of them, she has done this before. Congratulations that this litter did not end up in the wrong hands. These dogs will not end up in a shelter because of her.
I have been in that situation before, only my pregnant dog was from a gassing facility (shelter) and not a drunken neighbor (well, who knows where mine came from originally). It is extremely tough to try and raise puppies when you are not prepared for it and have no idea what you are doing. You just try to do the best by the dogs, spay and neuter them and find excellent homes.
I also know that Steph will stand behind these dogs, even though she is not a breeder, and take them back if the new owners don't want them.
I agree though, about being sick over the fact that this even happened. I am in rescue and it happens more than anyone wishes it would.

So glad momma is taking to the pups so well.
If you lived by me I would take one of the pups when they are ready. A female and name her Mercy for all she has been shown. You are only a couple of thousand miles too far away.

Stephanie keeps giving good Dharma and will be rewarded people always get rewarded for being kind to animals. But that's not where I was going with my comments.
My comments are more for the original owner of this pup having pups. That is what upsets me. What if Stephanie called animal control and got these people charged and then they were convicted of animal cruelty and/or neglect. And not rescuing the dog and her pups. Possibly the pup and her pups could've died I'm sure .. hey they still could die. Wouldn't that have been a better lesson to the owners than .. Let us let all of our dogs hump all over the place, it's ok Stephanie or the rescue will take care of the fallout. ?? These people deserve that and boot to the behind as well ..

While I support Stephanie and what she did, I have to agree with Geoff here.
