Thank you all for your condolences and kind words.
It was a very emotional decision, but I know overall it is what was best for him. It's the first euthanization I had ever been present for, and I was surprised at how fast it actually happens. We told him we loved him, gave him some extra treats, and pet him for a bit, even after he was gone. Many tears were shed.
My daughter did well until it was time to go. As we were walking out she suddenly turned around, ran back to the table and gave him one more hug. That really broke my heart.
The house is definitely empty without him and it's an adjustment not having him here. I hear the back door creak and think it's him nosing his way back in like he used to do. I also almost got onto Ty to put up the leftovers so the dog wouldn't get them. It's not the same coming home and not hearing him stand up in the kennel, eager to greet us. Or not getting up in the morning and greeting him to let him out.
Sorry for the ramble. It just amazes me at just how big his part in our lives really was.
It is amazing how very much they become a part of our lives, and how dearly we miss the noise and activity they add to the family. Warm thoughts still being sent your way...

Danity, I'm late coming to this as I haven't been on the boards much...
But I want you to know how sorry I am. I know you gave your pup the best life he could have. He's waiting for you, healthy as can be, over the Rainbow Bridge. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
