I can't see pictures over this server, what kind of dog is Ryuk????? I would love to say this sounds absurd to me but I get this kind of behavior all the time because my dogs are of the Pit Bull breeds. I get all kinds of ugliness from folks for just walking them...they are in a tight heel, they are focused and attentive to me, while their "non-pit" breeds, often smaller designer breeds are tugging and lunging and barking their little heads off.....I just stay away for ther very reasons you experienced at the market. Even when I get asked if someone can handle my dogs, which I think is a lovely gesture, I still say no, I use the "they are in training" excuse. I trust the dogs, I do not trust ill educated people. Thank goodness you had the support of the public, for all you know the woman could have blamed the Chis bite on your boy....sigh

I get the same sort of behavior from people, with my hounds because people think they are either Dobies or Rotties, and with Yote because people think he is a wolf, or a coyote...or a fox.
I detest flexi leads, and my dogs are never loose anywhere that it could be a problem, Yote is double collared when in public and we steer very clear of all other dogs when out with him.

My little dog murdered 9 beetles last night.....and got away with it.
The horrors. On purpose?
I'm calling PETA.
Or would that be PETI?
Well, if this is a problem I should probably tell my wife not to teach Nero to kill every bug that ever comes in the house. At this point he is serial killer with a consistent M.O. (He mauls then eats, spits out, then crushes with his nose, then eats) haha Seriously.

When I first opened my shop, I didn't even carry Flexi-leads. I acquiesced after enough requests for them, but still recommend against their use every time one is brought to the counter. If your dog can go out 20+ feet, it kind of defeats the purpose -on a walk, anyway. I use long tethers to reinforce recall, but on a walk, I'd think most folks would like their dogs close. But as a pet shop owner, I can tell you that a large percentage of dog/puppy owners (at least in my area) do not. Most of my nylon or leather leads come in 4 & 6 foot lengths, and can't tell you how many times I'm asked why they don't make THOSE longer!
To balance things out from starting this thread, two of my favorite dogs to see come into the shop are quite small, one is a Boston terrier, the other is a poodle-cross thing. The former is Lola, who knows more "cute" tricks than any dog I've met. She stands and put her paws up when told to "freeze," then drops when her owner says "BANG!" ...or me if I have a treat. The cocka-shi-poo dog (Maggie) will stand up and "dance," and turn in circles on her hind legs, bouncing up and down. Both greet other dogs of any size in a respectable manner and are solid as Sears around any "company." No doubt that little dogs are regularly raised as awesome and amazing companions.

You wanna borrow our Akita-mix pup for awhile?
Oops, potential thread-jack. That would be a BIG dog getting away with murder.
TONS of prey drive and is fast as lightening. Will chase anything that moves.
We no longer have a problem with neighborhood cats using our back yard for a litter box. He hasn't caught any yet as far as I know, but it's a matter of time...

My poodle bit my finger once and I got this red mark for a minute. I'm happy to report that none of my Jack Russells, Border Collies or my young working bred GSD have bitten me!
The poodle bites sometimes because we are too dumb to remember that she's a dog and not a warm cuddly stuffed animal. When she reminds us, we ground her for a day and remember to remember that she is an aristocratic, dignified and spirited young lady who expects to be treated with the same consideration with which she treats us.

Our Westie went through my thumb once, as I was extracting him from Basher's mouth. Somehow the bullmastiff didn't take to being peed on by a dog the size of a loaf of bread.
I have a full set of teeth mark scars in my forearm from Basher. Separating his sister from him (a fight inspired by her brain cancer). She released him and he pulled out from under the blanket and my winter parka and bit the first thing he came to, my arm. As soon as mommy started bleeding the fight was done and Basher spent weeks apologizing. Impressed on me the power....since it was through the blanket, parka and a thermal shirt and flannel shirt sleeve.
