Leih,I live in lower south western Fairfield County 2 miles fron the beach & we can't bring animals (dogs or horses) to the beach except between Oct 1st & March 31st. You can use any of the beachs for dogs & 1 in the area that we take the horses to. My horse has always loved the beach as much as the dogs do. He likes to splash & play in the water just like my dogs do. LOL
I have had enough of the HHH summer already & am looking forward to the fall. My dogs love it the best when it is about 30 degrees out. Me too. :-)
Yes, the black dogs really absorb the heat. My female is mostly black & she heats up much more quickly then my dark sable male. I have to really keep an eye on her. She is so drivey that she will go until she drops if I were to let her. My dogs are spoiled....they work & then come into the house or the truck where the A/C is running to cool them down as quickly as possible. In the nicer weather they are out most of the day.
Yup, it's hard to be a black dog in the hot sun. It's astounding how much heat can build in a black coat in very little time. I'm also curious about how well the reflective jackets work?
I give my dog lots of time in the shade and it seems to help.

We were practically neighbors! My spousal unit and I lived in Rowayton.
Oh man, on the beach with your horse and dogs...talk about heaven! (I love horses.)

An interesting thing; to reflect heat, wear white (when you're in direct sunlight, for example). To radiate heat, wear black (in the shade, just trying to stay cool).
So, your black dogs would have it made in the shade .
Hey Leih I am in West Norwalk for 6 yrs now but grew up & spent most of my life in Greenwich. We use Pendelton in Fairfield for the horses at low tide. (you can get around the jetties & go thru several beaches for maybe at least 1/2 mile or more & way out on a sand bar) & all the local beaches for the dogs. You are right Rowayton is part of Norwalk. Small world.
ETA...it is super wonderful to ride on the beach with your own horse.
it reached 95 today....yesterday it was 98....I LIVE IN MASSACHUSETTS IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HOT HERE...I want my negative winter temperatures back....or at least cool nights....I'd like 50 degree nights....
Yep, it was 98 here today & humid. There was an ever so slight breeze for whatever it was worth...Not much. This whole week is supposed to be in the higher 90's & humid. Not much to look forward to, weather-wise. YUCK!
