I was assuming she was going directly to the cardiologist. Chance's cardiologist had the results right after her examination.
The echocardiogram is the more definitive test. It picks up the ejection fraction (a measure of how much blood is actually pumped on each stroke), heart wall thickness, and a few other details.
If the vet does have to send them out there will, of course, be a seemingly interminable wait.
However, it sounds as if she is catching the problem before he goes into failure. That's a good thing.

Back from the ultrasound. Well, there will be a wait for the cardiologist's report. I should know by mid-day tomorrow, though. I'll update here as soon as I can.
As for the tech, she did tell me that there were no heart worms, and that she didn't even see a noticeable enlargement. She said that all four chambers seemed to be functioning normally, and that the pulmonic? and aortic valves looked normal. She did a brief look at the lungs and noticed nothing unusual there either, but possible fluid, and not an amount that would be terribly worrisome. And the heartbeat sedated was still 100 to 130, which she told me not to lose sleep over. Rose was quite worked up upon coming in, though. This week with no running has been tough. She hasn't been that excited for a car ride since she was a pup. I had hoped to take her for a long walk before the ultrasound, but it was hot and 90, so I opted not to.
Side rant, anyone else ever get the auto-filled write up reports from the vet's office? The ones that basically shame you for having an intact dog, not keeping up with annual vaccines, and such? They tell you all the possible downsides of not spaying (from breast cancer to accidental pregnancy), and the horrors of distemper, parvo, hep, a-v, etc. This one was special. The vet said she was a bit lean, but they accidentally entered Rose as overweight, so I got the fear report on that as well.
Well, now the wait. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but it sure sounds pretty positive. I'll let you know as soon as I hear. Thanks again, you guys are great!

THAT ALL SOUNDS GREAT!
I have been worried about Rose. Perhaps she just got incredibly overheated and was near collapse from that on her initial exam.

What a reversal from the original exam (the tech now saying no noticeable enlargement). What a huge relief that must've been. I know you have to wait for the report, but this sounds so much better than the first results!

Aw. Stir-crazy, huh?

Well, it's almost seven PM and I expected something by noon today. The vet's office has closed, but she's called me from there much later than this. She was nice enough to give me her home number, which also went to machine. If no news in an hour or so, I'll drive by the practice and see if she's there. I hate to be a pest, but I don't think I can wait until tomorrow for a prognosis.

Timeliness of diagnosis is part of the deal, you are owed that.
I'd go over there, myself.
