Well this is a first for me. I think my eldest papillon has kennel cough. He was feeling not so hot this morning but I thought it was a simple break in routine causing a case of the grungies.
Around 2pm the honk, honk, cough began. Mild fever. If he goes off food or he seems to be getting worse tomorrow I'll take him in to see what the Vet thinks. Otherwise like any other virus I was going to let this thing run it's course without the vet trip since he's in pretty good health otherwise.
When Tasha had kennel cough I found that wearing a collar for walks aggravated it. I switched her to a harness for a week or two and it seemed to help. Hers was upper respitory and it affected her throat. When she barked she would cough, thats the only way I knew something was wrong.
Other than that the vet just told me to keep her dry and monitor her condition. It went away on its own pretty quickly.
A harness or no collar is better. If you push on his throat, will he start the cough? One of my Paps came with kennel cough, or at least showed symptoms within days of getting her, she was fine, but I was nervous because she was so young/small.
