I had good luck with Nico's nasty hotspot and general skin eruptions using Genta spray from the vet. It's a antibiotic/cortisone spray. It works even better than plain ol otc cortisone cream since it kills the germs as well.
after a couple of days of that I started sprinkling gold bond on it between the morning and evening spray to help dry it up.
EMT gel and spray is my favorite all around doggie first aid treatment. All natural collagen: safe to use on punctures, reptiles and birds and it really is like a miracle for wound healing.
The spray has something super bitter in it to deter chewing and licking too.
Thanks Joyce I will give it a try. Teds tail seems to be doing better. Still daily bandage changes at the vet. I spoke to the vet and hopefully next week we can do every other day. He also still needs the cone and cervical collar. What a hassle.
Flash's hotspot is doing better. Looks like it is scabbi g over.
Glad to hear that Ted is doing better! I am sure that those collars are indeed a hassle, but hopefully soon they can come off.
It must feel like every day is an age for Ted, poor guy!
I will ask the vet about spray Jennifer, but in the meantime what is emt spray and where do you find it, pharmacy?
Thanks.
I have found it at Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas in the gundog section, at a local animal and pet supply place, and online.
I know I sound like a spokesperson or something but I really really like this stuff. I use it on myself for burns and cat scratches and it takes the sting and pain out. http://www.emtgel.com/
Yeah it feels like a long time for him and me. Vet said hopefully next week we can go to every othe day visits. I am just getting frustrated because as soon as I take the cone off he goes right for it. I feel like I should leave it on but he is so miserable looking so I let him out and on walks it comes off, but I just find myself yelling at him to stop going afer his tail and then put his cone on. He and I both can't wait for him to heal. I have a feeling even after the bandages come off he'll need the cone since he is a locker and will try and lick it. Hopefully it heals soon...
