Our foster dogs are always crated at night - since we can't possibly know their full history, and coming to us as broken as they usually are, they're usually stressed enough to display poor house manners for the first few days. Every one of them gets fully crate-trained by the time they leave my house to their new adopted home.
My old old old springer Ed stays out and usually sleeps by the baby gate at the hallway to my bedroom (so the kittehs have a portion of the house as a dog-free sanctuary), but he's mostly only interested in sleeping, snuggling and occasionally barking, so he's no trouble at all.
Our boxer Belle is crated every night because she loves to chew and even my father-in-law got tired of cleaning up the garbage when she would get into it. She had a habit of digging out the coffee filters and shaking them so the coffee grounds would redecorate the entire kitchen.

Forgot my old ones, Rottie, Amstaff, RidgebackxRottie, American Bulldog and Staffordshire Bull Terrier all used to sleep on the dog couch but 2 minutes after going to bed my little staffy used to come running and curl himself in the corner at the foot of the bed, gave up trying to get him to stay on the couch and let him sleep there all the others would stay on the couch till I let them out in the morning.

My dogs Bindi, Cody, Terra all sleep in their crates at night. I used to leave them open so they could go in any time but Terra goes in other pups crates and steals their antler bone. So that is it. The others weren't too happy about that. They all sleep in their crate. Each has a turn to stay up late one day a week. When the others are put to bed, on monday lets' say, Bindi takes her blankie and her bone out into the living room and chews on it as my husband and I watch tv. Then when I go to bed, she is allowed on my bed, but she immediately goes into her crate (on her own) when my husband comes out of the bathroom and in to bed. Then the next night the next dog gets a turn, and the next. On Weekends, no one gets a turn. They all love their crates and i am so blessed we have learned about having a crate for your dogs from Ed and this web site.
So that is how mine sleep and where. I do not sleep all night with my dogs on my bed, but we do take turns snuggling with each of them one night a week.

Ruby (GSD)slept in a closed up crate until about 4 mos and then I started leaving the door open so she can choose to sleep on a cushion beside the bed or stay in the open-door crate. She is now 9 mos and she almost always chooses to stay in the crate all night. Gets up and gives me a sloppy kiss when she thinks it's time to get up. If I disagree I let her go potty and then put her back in the crate with the door closed until I'm ready. Daisy, the smooth fox terrier sleeps on the bed and even under the covers if she gets cold. :}

Shadow is only 5 months but really loves her crate Last night my husband wanted to wish her happy new years and she looked at him like what is wrong with you people and went back to her crate on her own I don't think she would be ready to be out yet, would probably chew everything, she is allowed playtime, which we enjoy.

Conan sleeps in bed with me until Garrett gets home or goes to bed, then he sleeps on me. Literally on top of me. I love it. I'm really weird, but I love the comfort of a canine against me. It makes me feel secure. Danni's still in her crate, because if she wasn't she wouldn't sleep. She'd just walk around the room, pull socks out of the laundry basket and give me and Garrett the occassional doggie wet willy. I'm hoping she'll be out of there within the next year or so, haha.

My two sleep downstairs on their beds. They're not allowed upstairs, ever.

Both Skipper and Jethro sleep downstairs. This keeps dog hair localized (sort of). Skipper is super reliable and sleeps in his crate with the door open. Jethro is super unreliable and sleeps in his crate with the door closed. It is a great arrangement. I've started working on getting Skipper to accept the crate door closed, but it is going to be a very long process.

Mine sleeps on his own bed in our room. But I do miss having a dog in bed with me. He was allowed up in the beginning but started taking over and refusing to move or get off when asked.
