Butch: Off topic!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
It's good to see I'm not the only one that doesn't equate dogs to baby's or children. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
My wife says I'm a tyrant, :rolleyes: so be it.
Butch: Dinner was great. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Todd, I have mixed feelings about the whole squirt bottle thing, but I won't go into it, other than to say that it's a real pain in the butt to have a dog that won't drink out of a squirt bottle when you need him to!
It is not a punishment. It is to redirect the dog. My dogs chase it. But when they do they aren't barking at the door. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Todd, it's to simple to understand. Any type of redirection will work, the squirt bottle is handy and allows the owner to redirct the dogs attention
from a distance. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
My Akita gave me a good bite on night when I got inbetween her and the GSD. won't do that again!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> :rolleyes: well I might just to see if my correction got across to her. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Todd: Can you guarantee me a aggressive pup??
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Or maybe one that doesn't bark, Oh! already have one like that the AKITA. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
No, it's not supposed to be a punishment. It's important to make that distinction. Most of the time when I hear people recommend that, it is described in terms of punishment, so I have a natural tendency to question the whole squirt bottle thing. I know what you're saying, though. It's important that THE DOG not see it as a punishment.
Hey, off topic here, just out of curiousity, how would you desensitize a dog to squirt bottles? I've been working on water fountains by having him retrieve his ball or a treat out of the fountain while I have the water on, but what I really want him to do is drink out of a water bottle with a squirt top lid. I'm just not sure exactly how to start. PM me if you want.
I just took one out on the trail with me, and did not allow him to drink out of the river.. I just let the water dribble out of the bottle and he licked it a few times and I slowly incressed the pressure of the squeeze, so now I can just squirt it right into his mouth and he drinks. If he is thirsty he will drink.
