Laurel, a multi-person PM thread about this forum thread is going on, with discussion of the order we all watched marker training as it unfolded here on LB.
The people replying here all started with the DVDs in order, as they were released (219, 220, 221, etc.) and are responding based on that.
While I have seen (and loved) every DVD in the series, I learned loading the marker from the first video (219).
So .... stay tuned!

I skimmed and replied to what I thought the op was doing vs what the traditional loading the mark is. I know about the timing of movement after the mark/release word, but I don't believe Michael or Ivan ever just charge the mark in the traditional, clicker training way of doing things.
I have debated with others in the past, but all I've ever seen is the luring/treat chasing like in the video. And remember Bob, the election is Wednesday, November 7th.

Also, Laurel, can you clarify ..... of the series, you have seen only #220 (Power of Food), right?
And again, stay tuned! Your thread has started a good email discussion!

This is why in a lot of discussions I've commented that I don't marker train, because in the traditional sense as I learned it with a clicker, I don't.

Is this video supposed to be loading the mark?. It appears to be reinforcing engagement using a marker that is already loaded.
In other videos, ME instructs loading the marker pretty much as Connie described it. The way I load it is to "yes" and reward, repeatedly, with noe behavior commanded or expected. I then reinforce it, kind like ME is doing in this video. I then start luring and forming individual behaviors, building on the engagement exercise.
Hey Duane, where does he,himself charge the mark in that manner?
I don't have the videos and I can't find that anywhere. Does he just mention it in a general conversation? I thought he does go right to engagement/luring with a release/movement.

Laurel, I personally focused heavily here on DVD #219 (which was produced as a "pre-Ellis- series" DVD, by Ed, who of course produced all of the Ellis series ... hence the numbers, 219, 220, 221, etc.) and other video clips.
I should have noted that you were starting with 220, I should have checked how 220 recapped 219, I should have refreshed my memory completely.
I also should have encouraged you a lot more than correcting you!
These were all MY problems, no one else's, and I apologize.
This is how I learned to load the marker, and I admit that the loading step was probably skipped over (by me) as I continued through the series.
What I would like to do is to start over on loading the marker.
I'm really sorry I was not encouraging and helpful, which, looking back, I definitely was not.
How's this for a new start?

I misspoke; it was Ed that demonstrated it in the Basic Obedience video. His marker training is modeled after Michael's.

That's one of the ones where he (Michael) describes charging-the-marker as "yes feed yes feed yes feed"?
I was looking for that!

The yes feed yes feed yes feed is so very simple. There is nothing more to add to it. No additional movements. No additional commands, encouragement, chastising, yadda, yadda!
Just yes feed yes feed yes feed.
