I'm reactive hypoglycemic and stay away from sugar/refined carbs. Sigh. But that combined with eating snacks throughout the day takes care of most of my symptoms. My blood sugar will still go low sometimes, but it usually just takes a juice box/snack to get it back on track.
I eat a high protein, moderate fat, moderate carb diet. Always eggs/toast or a high protein shake for breakfast. And I can't skip breakfast. I have before just to eat something for lunch and it can send my blood sugar on a roller coaster. For instance no breakfast and a bowl of pasta for lunch and the sudden influx of carbs causes my body dumps to much insulin into my bloodstream and my blood sugar goes low. I shake my head in amazement when I see people eating donuts for breakfast.
But I don't have a huge sweet tooth so I survive. And honestly, after doing the low sugar thing for so many years, if I have a bite of dessert it's usually WAY too sweet for my taste buds. I'll have dark chocolate or an apple if I want something sweet or maybe a diet soda once or twice a month.
Yup - sweet just aren't worth it. I miss them every once and a while. But they're just not worth the trouble.
I've had people comment on how skinny (not that skinny, just one the thin side of average) I am and that they hate me/it's not fair, etc. I know about half of it is just good genetics, but those comment make me want to say "try giving up sugar - just like I did. Maybe you can be skinny too then" Especially when I see them eating donuts and drinking sugar laden soda then commenting that it's not fair that I'm thin...

I never had a sweet tooth until a certain age.
Both serotonin levels and sweets cravings were hugely affected for me with the estrogen drop.
I have to not buy the good sweets (Trader Joe's candy aisle --- I have to stagger through with my eyes closed, feeling my way) .... because I would be just like Betty, stocking up for Halloween three times. LOL
Snickers. M-m-m-m-mmmm..... Three Musketeers .......

Yeah, don't you love it when people say "you're so lucky that you don't gain weight" when you know what a major job it is and how much attention you pay to what you eat while they swill 64-ounce sodas with their fast food? AARRGGHH!

Tell me about it. I eat a lot of food. But I eat a lot of protein, fruit and vegetables. I'm dairy free, so no cream, milk, butter or cheese. I only eat fish, no other meats. And a crap ton of fruits. I could eat more veggies. But like...apples and peanut butter? So good. And better than your chocolate chip granola bar!
And yes, I even drink coffee everyday. But it's just black coffee or espresso with a little bit of milk. No sugar or cream. No nastiness.
I also don't drink soda. I don't eat fast food. And let's face it, my dogs need done serious exercise. I'm high energy myself so I'm really not immobile for long!
Wow sorry to hear about every ones food issues I'm bummed for all of you.
This is depressing news I'm gonna go eat a whole bag of Chips Ahoy with Reese's peanut butter cups chased with non fat milk but that's not really milk more like water.
By the way I make some killer dairy free pumpkin chocolate chip cookies when I do get a sweet tooth.
Katie can we have the recipe, please!!!
I went through a lifestyle studie for a previous condition I had.
I had such a hard time awnsering the questions.
They were all how many times a week do you eat/or thing?
Fast food can't remember the last time, cookies, ice cream, chips or other sweet or salty item, are unknown in my place.
How many hours a week do you walk? Many many per day
How many days a week do you practice a sport? every day many times.
